  1. Have you checked an insurance quite with all those mods on?

  2. Is a dealer not private sale with 12 month warranty

Although I’m not sure if the warranty is much good sometimes they seem a con

  3. If it's a main dealer the warranty is pretty good!

  4. Yes he’s done all that

He’s had an MX5 for the last 3 years and has 5 years ncd - quote was under 1k

Still expensive compared to a 52 year old though

  5. Has he put the reg through the MOT history you can be guided by any issues it’s had at MOT time :)

  6. We’re currently running a 65 plate 2.0TDi Bluemotion as a loan car. Motor is fantastic, electric steering is on a whole other level of vague. I’m unsure when they brought in the electric steering but it basically makes you trust the car without getting any feel through the steering. Weird.

It’s also a hard ride, even in comfort mode it’s not exactly bouncy. I definitely wouldn’t want a lowered one. It’s rapid and perfectly good as is and doesn’t need fiddling with. As others have said above, if you want more car that that then go and buy it from the start.

  7. Agree, alarm bells are ringing. unless they are factory options, a boy racer has thrashed it to within 1 inch (approx) of its life.
find another, and get an insurance quote before committing , or regret it

  8. Get a proper golf! Must say it’s a pain in the arse when the kids want to come too though but it’s a weapon. Must be the fastest van out there.

  9. You've uploaded the wrong picture. A proper golf is a 'R'

  10. I’ve had a mk5 and now mk6 golf gti and no problem brilliant car love it

  11. My mk 6 was a really good car but my Clubsport S is ridiculous. Had the mk6 remapped and bilstein suspension kit and was a great useable car. The clubsport S isn’t very practical!

Always preferred the GTI to the R it’s a lot lighter on its feet. R is fast and easy to drive but not as involving.

  12. CTFY

  13. I love fast cars, but hate turbo lag.

  14. Read that & keep reading that in the motoring press. Test drove both before my purchase & could not disagree more, the R is the car the GTI wants to be . A motoring journalist makes a slightly controversial statement & on occasion all the sheep jump on the bandwagon. In my opinion, this is a perfect example of that.

As always, I appreciate its personal opinion.

The GTI feels underpowered, and point to point in the real world ( particularly in the wet - so every day..) the R leaves it for dead. The R has infinitely higher levels of grip.

I also appreciate not everything is about power & speed ( read that somewhere too - mugs) , but the R is mega fun to drive.

Oh , and whilst they are trying to preserve some heritage with the GTI , there is way too much chavvy red shouty exterior look at me detail on it for my palate.

I do however like the checked GTI interior.

    Apologies to hijack the thread.

On topic ( may have already been covered), some owners chip a car to get the best out of it . They listen to Radio 2 & help old ladies cross the road.

The other acne clad crew listen to Radio 1 Xtra, screw the f**k out of their Vdub while snorting meow meow of their underaged girlfriends tits & trying to knock over said old lady.

Simply work out which catogery the car sits in & my advice is stear clear of the latter.

    Good luck.

  16. I’m looking to take out a Golf GT TDI on a business lease.
Can anyone recommend a leading company.
I had a quick look last night and prices vary so much.

    24 months lease
    Approximately 8k miles a yr

  17. I will get my son to run some figures as a guide and pm u

  18. That would be great. Thanks for the offer mate. I look forward to receiving yr pm.

    Also consider a BMW 5 series 520d.

  19. We have had a few vehicles from

    http://www.freedomcontracts.com/

Both private & company. They have always been on point regarding price.

As a general search engine to look across the marketplace the following is useful. At the risk of teaching you how to such eggs, if a deal looks very good - review the company & act fast . Allocations on mega deals can go very quickly.

Additionally, an appropriate thread on pistonheads may direct you towards the best current deals. There are some proper geeks on their who look at the market daily.

    Cheers

  20. People always seem to assume power makes it better. I would say a 150bhp clio williams is probably more fun on a British B road. For me the industry has lost the plot.

Anyway you can choose other than the base model if you do want more power. mine has the golf R engine but the CSS has a better flowing exhaust and is about 250kg lighter than an R. With the diff, sticky tyres and proper aero and suspension is amazing - there is not a lot in comparison to them as drivers cars.

Granted the school run is easier in an R and the Cup 2 don't work in any more than light drizzle. I know which is better on Hartside pass though.

For me the R looks too much like a regular golf match (which is the point i suppose) and unless it has pretorias they look totally ordinary. The seats are pretty horrid too and the amount of rough second hand ones on the market is mental as loads were bought on cheap PCP deals, thrashed and handed back by chav's. There a reason ones with pretoria's and leather go for well above list compared to standard.

As an everyday performance car the R is pretty much unbeatable. I would sooner have a GTI PP though as i prefer the way they drive and look and a set of winter tyres are cheap enough if the 4wd bothers you that much.
