  2. acclaimed ?

Do you mean there may be some doubts on that point ?
You'd be hard pressed to find any modern director that doesn't view Kubrick as a Maestro and a visionary .

On 2001 specifically , keep in mind that it was made before the moon landings , there was nothing like
those images of the Earth from space , and the docking procedures we've seen of the ISS were decades in the future !

If the concept of the movie is difficult , especially the Starchild sequence at the end , it helps to read the short novel
" The Sentinel" written by Arthur C. Clarke , in 1948

Anyway , Kubrick ranting aside .... :) .... I'll chuck in these suggestions

    Chinatown
    Bladerunner
Full Metal Jacket ..... and I don't even like war movies .....:D

  3. Chuck Apocalypse Now & The Godfather in there & you’ve got most of my top 5

  4. Revenant +1, shutter island worth a watch too

  13. Wander. emotional, but brilliant.

  14. Is it a follow up to Wanderers?

  15. no, but that's a good movie too. it's about a kid with a disfigurement and how deals with life at school. it's not a sad movie, with good humour through out. well worth a watch.

  16. I actually watched a good film last night recommended by my dad. The Windermere Children, you can catch it on BBC iPlayer

    Platoon
Tron Legacy (not everyone’s cup of tea but I found it visually stunning with an awesome soundtrack)
    Usual Suspects

as for AppleTV, I’ve picked it up free with a recent phone purchase but I wouldn’t pay for it. I could understand it if it was free to access but you pay a subscription and then pay on top for the majority of its content, have they not seen how the others do it? And to top it all much of what they advertise is available free from our terrestrial channels catch up services? I watched the long way down/round/up on it but nothing else.

Planning on taking up a years Disney+ soon, they are due to hike the price £20yr later this month so going to get in before then, also can get £10 back through topcashback so £50 a year ain’t bad and I’m a big StarWars fan so want to see what all the fuss is about over this Mandalorian series.

  17. Mandalorian was fantastic. After all the recent crap, it was a great return to SW storytelling. Really worth a watch.
As for your list-The Usual Suspects is an immense film but like Inception, it’s power is in the first time you see it. Still worth a shout though.

  18. Watched that one again last night, not much dialogue but spectacular scenary and boy what epic journey made,a bit like the movie Touching The Void, testing your human resources far beyond most normal peoples parameters..

  19. Local Hero
    Priscilla queen of the desert
    Hidden Figures
    Eye in the sky
    Highlander
