V4 Ground Clearance?

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Etherion, Oct 30, 2018.

  1. Hello, i am wondering if anyone is having ground clearance issues with their V4 on track?

I already have aftermarket rearsets but my boots are still getting trapped underneath quite often and does anyone know whether the front preload needed to be adjusted?
I had to add one full turn but still bottoming out on the forks (after being setup). Not really wanting to add much more as having issues with the rear clearance.

I am also decking out the exhaust side and tips when hitting dips in certain corners which unsettles the bike whilst with some lean
Did anyone experience similar issues or are there ride height adjusters to be added or just a matter of playing with rear preload?

Sag was deemed ok by the suspension specialists when setup.

  2. Who set it up for you Li?

  3. Don't get me wrong - it works ok at some circuits and bearing still pretty new to the bike, i have not placed too much importance to it until now.

Even with the above issues, i am fairly happy with how it handles and is considerably better than stock settings. I have used them in the past and have been happy - they used to be at most nl events.

one other thing to add is at high speeds from 4th gear onwards, the bike wobbles.

Someone was watching me on pitlane and apparently my bike was the only one which wobbled considerably at higher speeds. (didn't happen on my other bikes). This used to happen before the suspension setup at high speed straights such as silverstone.

Just wondering how to dial these issues out as i am paying alot of attention to these issues which is detracting from riding.

  4. Sounds like it's way too soft at the rear in both pre-load and compression damping. If you increase them, remember to offset with rebound.

  5. I'd give Darren a call at MCT I know he has worked on V4's.

  6. How heavy are you?

  7. ok thanks, approx. 13 stones:)

  8. So add another stone for kit etc.

The weight of the bike always goes down thru the centre of the bike. So when you’re cornering hard, the suspension front and back compresses.
If you’ve not got enough support from the spring (firstly) and damping (lastly), it will settle thru the stroke too quickly and stuff could touch down given enough lean and track conditions.
The set up you have may be good for the road but not great if you’re a fast rider on track. Typically a good track set up will feel pretty hellish on the road and knock your fillings out. So that’s a quick albeit rudimentary and non scientific way to tell.
The wobble you describe often happens as the rear set up is soft, the bike is underdamped and then sits and oscillates in the stroke, this transfers thru the chassis. A stiffer rear end with increased damping will help put more weight forward.
Also make sure you are gripping the bars too tightly.

  9. Oh and if you’re feet are touching down with rearsets, you are perhaps not sitting with the ball of your foot far enough back on the peg mid-turn. Make sure they’re proper back, clamped against the side of the bike and out the way before you commit.

  10. It’s a bit long buy about half way iirc you can see what he does with his feet to keep them outb the way

  11. Etherion is a pretty quick rider, he has raced a fair bit and I suggest he knows the basics so I think this is purely about the bike set up.
Having said that I've been riding on track for 20 years and I'm still learning.
