Yes, but he did have the same wheels and tyres on his car as he did his bike.... ..."all spokes and cross plies"...... It's a pity he has never been given a knighthood for his achievement......now had he been riding/driving English wheels, he probably would have one (or wouldn't have won).
By laws of averages the current crop of F1 drivers are not the best in the world - they have just had the opportunity amongst other silver spoon types. If everyone in the world had an equal chance none of them would be there at all, so don't make martyrs of any of them as I would be fastest and someone on here may well be second fastest :Watching:
FWIW I think @bradders and @Exige are both right. The modern breed of F1 drivers are the cream but they required the opportunity and luck along the way to get them there. Are there unknown out there who if they had been given the same opportunities could be in F1, absolutely.
Just Also does a lot of charity work; just hasn't bothered with the marketing machine around his name like Moss. I think he is the only F1 and motorbike GP world champion. Top bloke if you ever get to speak to him. Very down to earth, sharp and straight.
The same goes for all sports: I bet those brave athletes from Kyrgyzstan and the Cayman Islands feel really confident when they line up against the Brit superstars who've had their snout in the tax payer and Lottery funded trough....
We are slowly descending into the realms of utter bollox Most footballers come from the gutter schools Rugby from the elite schools Athletics from mixture Cricket from S.A. Motorsport from often working class parents who sacrifice all for their kids
Can't remember the last lords or princes son who graced and f1 or MGP grid. You won't have to look far at rugby or cricket
Hamilton aside, and his family wasn't short of a penny or two, the rest are predominantly sons of multi millionaires with the right connections.
current sons of,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, piquet, rosberg, prost, fitipaldi, verstapen, vatanen, wilson,, to name but a few
Money buys opportunity, not just in motor sport. But just being wealthy,or having sponsorship doesn't ensure success. Having the right connections* might get someone into a better team than their skill really deserves. Talent and dedication will only take someone so far,sadly...but that's a fact of life, not just reserved for motor racing. *Doesn't seem to happen in bike racing thank goodness....I wonder if this plays a small part in pulling massive crowds at MotoGP rounds, and the dwindling attendances at F1?
I suppose it depends on how you look at "racing incidents", but fair enough I'll agree to disagree... Life's too short to be arguing over a multi-millionaire who lives in Switzerland... Or was it Monaco ? Or LA ?
