OK, fair enough... I'll agree to diagree... After 36 years of riding bikes I've always found it far more uncomfortable and inconvenient to leave it on, but whatever...
think it depends on the stop, those who like a fag look for the relief, personally I like too fill up and fly off again. I love self service pay at pump
I lost my faith in all petrol stations after witnessing a disabled guy who pulled up at pump 1 and flashed his lights and then after waiting a while hooted his horn in vain to get some assistance? He was driving a heavily modified kangoo with ramp and wheelchair access so an idiot could even see he required assistance to fill up his motor rather than go through a 20 minute operation to do himself? I got him fueled up as soon as I had finished my car. When I went in to pay for my fuel and his the moron behind the till said "you are a mug - he's just a fat lazy bastard!" I was very close to jumping the counter I can tell you!
Some people obviously have a far busier life than I do... If you can't afford the extra thirty seconds to take off your lid your time must be very precious...
So what you're saying is, basically, rather than spend 20 seconds taking your lid off and maybe another 30 putting it back on - less than a minute in total - you'd rather spend 5, 10,15, 20 minutes riding around to a different petrol station ? Put yourself in the position of the person behind the counter for a second. For whatever reason - preconcieved ideas, media/TV propaganda, previouse experience - maybe that person feels threatened by someone who's face they cannot see clearly. Instead of continuing to be stubborn, confrontational and (let's face it, "can't be arsed") lazy, how about doing something to promote a good image of bike riders and removing your helmet ? If you continue to argue with counter staff and make them feel threatened maybe they will ban bikes/bike riders - then everyone suffers...
I know I'm going to cop some stick for this, but while it's better than it used to be, biking still has something of an image problem with some people. I therefore go out of my way to be that 'nice biker' when around general public, so the helmet comes off at petrol stations, I hold the door open for other patrons and always ensure I thank the attendant and generally be polite and pleasant. A little courtesy goes a long way.
Being a lazy git doesn't make me a bad person.Just lazy. The nearest petrol station to me has never asked me to take my helmet off.Im always polite. They are polite, job done.I like to take as I find, shame others don't.
