Honda 400/4 Rebuild

Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by comfysofa, Feb 8, 2020.

  1. Not got that far yet....apparently they (the assessors) are waiting for her insurance company to go in and verify that its a write off....my mates got a brokerage - hes dealt with her insurance company and said theyre not too bad on settling claims... im gunning for 4-5k and my bike back for me to repair. I could take the write off amount, but then id have to get round the other half for a gen 3 superduke. But, the zed is a known quantity, has never failed me in 6 years always starts, easy to work on, blissfully free of all electronics and, ive got it how i want it. Assuming i get it back i should be able to get it back to better than ever condition and get some Nitron fork cartridges in there as well as a new spray job with cash left over (keeping her happy) in the process.....

  5. Wheels taped up (hopefully should be able to convert to tubeless tyres). Thought I could get the tyres on with levers but... I'm not going to take the chance.... So taking them down tomorrow to get them fitted...

Hopefully I'll be able to, at last, get the wheels on, at the weekend...

  6. Might be worth putting something like the latex gloop or similar in the tyre to seal a small leak or two...

  7. I shouldnt need to - i sealed up the wheels on my 525 supermoto the same way (and i didnt use a rim band that time). Im not joking, it didnt leak any air whatsoever....The roll of tape is the stickiest stuff ever - wasnt cheap either (about 70 quid) - only way to see if it works is to try it....

  8. Well... That was almost a project in its own right... Tyres on. Wheels finished... Will try to fit the weekend but I've got incoming DIY work coming in...

Tape worked a treat again. Tyres are now tubeless...

  13. Cool! - anyone used it?

  14. At only 33mms wide that'll surely be only suitable for mountain bike wheels?? Stan's is the system I used on my MTB wheels, so yes, used it and it's the business.

  15. my roll is 50mm wide, having said that to get the front wheel to seal i had to shave about 10mm off to get the tyre to seat....

  16. I looked into this subject in a fair amount of detail when I bought a pair of Sport Classic wheels for a project bike and only then discovered, to my great disappointment, that the SC spoked wheels are tubed. There are lots of approaches to doing this such as overlapping narrower tapes, as seen in the YouTube link below. This tape, however, is 65mm wide by 26 inches

  17. I have also seen the conversions done with nothing more than bathroom silicone, albeit with extensive prep and cleaning! Each to their own....

  18. Well, my roll has done 4 bikes so far (Motorbikes) and its not failed yet....id say these wheels would be the same type of setup as your sport classic...
