I've tried to copy this from MSE.... we never knew the government were offering so much help to first time buyers.... So we've just opened a Help to Buy ISA for my wife, as we are considering buying a second property...... yes it's legal and we get £3000 tax free.... just wish I did the other scheme (LISA) a few years back when she was 39. MoneySavingExpert.com Savings Help to Buy ISAs Help to Buy ISAs First-time buyers can get £3,000 towards buying a property While the LISA allows you to save more, the Help to Buy ISA wins for some as our table shows: Lifetime ISAs vs Help to Buy ISAs – which wins? LIFETIME ISA (FOR HOME PURCHASE) HELP TO BUY ISA Max contribution? £4,000/year £2,400/year (£3,400 in year one) Lump sums? The home deposit and mortgage deposit Just the mortgage deposit Can I withdraw money if not buying a home? Yes, at age 60+; if earlier you don't get the bonus and will pay a penalty Yes, at any time, you just don't get the bonus Hopefully the table gets you there. If not, in summary... - If you'll DEFINITELY buy a home, for less than the LISA maximum of £450,000, are aged 18 to 39, and you won't do it within a year, go for a Lifetime ISA as you'll get a bigger bonus. - If you're older, YOU NEED TO BUY QUICKLY or you're not 100% sure you'll buy at all then it's safer to stick with (or get) a Help to Buy ISA.
Crikey I never knew there was such a thing as a free lunch lol. I got hammered from anywhere between 5 to 8% on my other properties stamp when the new fancy pants tax came in. I just put the rent up on my tenants and made them pay for it after explaining that I had to pass the fee on to them and that I’m sorry but blame the government not me. They were all understanding of this.

Property prices are disgusting but as myself and so many others have their futures tied up in it I hope it doesn’t deteriorate. All these new horrible estates popping up everywhere is not the answer with the right to buy bollox as it’s just an excuse to get even more people in to debt. Slums of tomorrow
I definitely qualify as a nimby as nothing boils my piss more than being surrounded by scum bags shit bags that should have been put in a bag and drowned in the river when they were born
