  1. A mate of mine has one of these "Dream weekend" companies that can be geared to the recipients favourite hobbies/passions such as you can arrive at a Top golf club hotel complex for a weekends golf in your dream classic car such as an E Type Jag etc.He says most of the Vouchers are purchased for men by their wives/partners or given to company employees as bonuses for a job well done? He loves it because they have a 6/12 month use by date and there is no cash surrender value.Tells me that less than 60% ever get used!!!

  2. Computers are the root of all evil! Totally ruined the used car job? I much preferred the old loose leaf car stock/vat book system - problem was the odd page sometimes fell out so you had to rewrite it???

  3. they also give 21century info to 17th century minds. scary stuff. anyhoo i wont bog this thread down with that ether, :smileys:

  7. Why do you want her to act happy about something that she didn't want? Makes no sense

Happy to get something yes, but I hate it when you give a present it is obvious they don't like it but pretend they do.

  8. Yeah - good upbringing and good manners are such a pain in the Arse! Have no part of it

  9. She already has more money than most people on here so it wouldn't mean much

  10. Ha! I think it is quite disrespectful to accept a gift and tell the person who bough it you like it, when in reality it will never get used or appreciated.

Same person might next time waste more money and effort buying you something similar that again is just a waste.

  11. Maybe, but accepting a gift and making a sideways snide glance is just bad manners and shows poor parenting skills/upbringing etc? - which if you read the thread title "I absolutely hate bad manners!" is what I was on about?

  12. It is a bit like a cargo cult in Polynesia, the useless gifts bind communities together with debts of obligation and cooperation.

  13. If you pretend to be happy with people, and do it consistently and convincingly enough for long enough, you will find that you really are happy. This is something kids have to be taught. Funny that!

  14. It reminds me of when I started dealing in cars and motorcycles, also selling Windows (secondary glazing was the bullshit terminology!") when I was a green 16! I learnt my sales patter and skills from an amazing Glasgow salesman who explained in simple terms that you only need one skill - Empathy - basically the skill to fake genuine interest in the punters wants and needs! When you become shallow enough to be able to carry this off - the world is your Lobster!

  15. But what would happen to e bay?

  16. 'Special brew' was ok...

  17. That sounds more then a little backwards to me. Pretending to be happy and hope for it to eventually catch on? And you think that should be taught to kids??

You have to be pretty miserable to come up with that sort of plan to pursue happiness.

But I agree with OP bad manners is a plague, specially as good ones don't cost anything. Just don't think turning down a unwanted gift in itself is bad manners.

  18. The opposite approach is also effective. If you act miserable and pretend to be miserable for long enough, you will find that you really have become a miserable old git.

  19. I like the sound of this theory. If you pretend to be wildly successful and act as if you're very wealthy will you wake up one day and find you're a millionaire?

  20. EVERY day you wake up is a lottery win :upyeah:
