916 I Finally Got One...

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Al Mossawi, Dec 6, 2017.

  1. Completely agree :) To be honest with you so far not too bad. Apart from the bike loosing power on the first journey out after service/cosmetic rebuild. Turned out to be loose connection on the TPS. I owned Alfa Romeos most of my life and they are full of "character" and with the duke I can't help being really worried about the bike conking out on me when I ride it.

  2. Lost power on the first ride out and limped it home. turned out to be a TPS connection gone loose.
Done - first entry from Dubai according to the map

  3. ALERT! ALERT! Italian unreliability myth propagation post detected! ; Al on behalf of the late Mussolini, the Romans and the current Italian parliament I feel compelled to say the following, I have owned several Alfa’s mainly GTV’s and covered probably 50k miles in them, not a single reliability issue, not one!, I currently own 2 Ducati’s, 800 Scrambler 5k miles no reliability issues, 900ss 38k miles, not a single reliability issue, as a mate of mine says (owns racing lines bike shop, been a bike specialist for 30 years) “it’s not the bikes it’s the owners “, I hope this has gone some way to repairing the damage caused to the Italian flag etc , stunning bike btw

  4. Hahaha I have to completely agree to some extent. I owned an Alfa 156 v6 for 10 years from new and did over 150,000km without an issue but I did maintain the hell out of that car. Rest assured the duke will get my full OCD treatment so hopefully by the time I get to use it more often I can iron out all the snags if they appear.

  5. Good man
PS and even if they were unreliable (which they are not of course!) we would still have to buy them because nothing stirs the soul quite like a Ducati.
I was at Cornerspeed yesterday, and saw my 900ss in there (in for improvements I hasten to add not reliability issues), it looked so beautiful I wanted to buy it! .

  6. So Mark, You will be pleased to know that my Yamaha decided to go nuts on me today. No LCD display, headlights or indicators at the front. Pure Jealousy from my duke and to kill the Japanese reliability myth I suspect

  7. Stunning bike

  8. Notoriously unreliable those Yamaha’s.

Actually it is one of the downsides of the complexity of modern machines though, brilliant whilst they are working but bloody confusing when they go wrong! (To old people like me anyway).

  12. mmmm,i think a lot of the problems are inherited issues, i paid £1895 for my 748..5 owners..2 very careful ones the rest god knows! it was cheap even in 2004, and as i rebuilt it more or less straight away they became apparent....it had the braided brake lines, rubbing through the anodising on the forks, the electrical connections on most of the loom were corroded or very green, thats not the bikes fault..its P.P.M...if you like messing these bikes are relatively easy ....if you dont...BUY THE BEST ONE YOU CAN AFFORD!!....but this series of ducati is the best looking bike ever...period!!...on the alfa topic i have a 2006 gt..only problem ive had in two years is a glow plug go down...

  14. I'm sure the late Mussolini would thank you. Did you speak on behalf of the late Hitler during the VW emissions scandal? I also had a GTV and now a Brera, which is plagued with comedy dash warnings. It likes to tell me that my rear parking sensing aren't working when I'm doing 70 in a forward direction. And it thinks that this warning should be given equal priority to 'low oil', which is a lie anyway - I just happened to be parked with 2 wheels on the kerb when I started the engine.

  15. I loved my v6 GTV. Unfortunately it loved being In the Alpha dealer garage more than my garage. It never put me off though and I've had a few Alfa's since, including the wife's current Mito.:upyeah:
