funnily enough i lived pretty much on the beach for six months at Ganivan sands in a 6x9 caravan about 20years ago. scored with the weather for most of it too. great times. .
Ganavan will be on my route north when I come up on the bike. Either next summer of the year after. Better get up there soon before its wall-to-wall camper vans. I gather the North Coast 500 has already gone that way. I suppose I could always fit ice tyres and heated undies and come up in May before the buggers come out of hibernation.
sadly Ganivan which had been gifted to the town residents, has been sold off a good few years ago to property developers. caused quite a stir at the time. the beach is still there obviously. yip, the 500 is apparently v.busy now. but busy compared to what?.
Pity.. Hence why I can't decide between Ireland and Scotland next year. I'd like to see the Northern Ireland's magnificent coast before the developers catch up with it and obliterate it which they're sure to do eventually. I'd rather camper vans than housing sprawl or Trumpian resorts. The NW500 was featured on a TV programme recently. Finding accommodation was the problem they highlighted. I thought the whole point of having a camper van was to leave the hotels free for bikers. Buggers.
yip, N.I is stunning if a lil flat, there was a fair bit of abandoned hosing developing going on the last time i was there right enough, but didnt spoil the experience in anyway. the people are just superb too. listen, take my word for it, dont miss out on mull of galloway roads and s/w coast. do take the ferry across to Arran then over to kintyre and up to the starting point of the N/W 500.
Good call. Always fancied exploring south west borders on a bike. Too easy to go straight past heading north and forget its there. The Galloway forest park appeals. Never thought of Arran. Good idea for the to-do list.
Just skimming through - couldnt give a fuck. This years holiday bill for me has weighed in at 6k (for 5 of us). This gets me 10 days somewhere in Greece ( ive no idea where ) the wife booked it, i just turn up as it were... for me to get mildly bored for, said 10 days and eat kind of ok food.... never buy anything as most of the tat in places is like that is, well, tat/shit. Not interested in sunbathing or anything like that, my kids are kind of ok with it but after 8 or 9 days theyre climbing up the walls to go home. Its the cross i have to bear for the ownership of multiple bikes.... Were going back to the same place we did a couple of years ago which advertises wifi (only fucking just though) but, the highpoint last time we were there was that i scored a race ecu for my RSV4factory which was a plus.
Six grand for ten days in a migrant squatter camp living on Red Cross food parcels? You'd be better off in a guest house in Weston-Super-Mare. You'd be well under budget even if you give the kids £100 a day to spend on slot machines and drink.
I don't see the point in going on holiday to unwind, just to then get stressed about towels, food, staff and other tourists etc.
