  1. Wow...

  2. I would agree up to a small point but having dealt with these people in both a professional and "personal" capacity, and particularly those that are scamming from Africa, mostly Nigeria and Ghana, the level of education varies quite wildly with these people, and the network they are operating in.

Some work alone and others work in groups and are more organised.

I have dealt with ones that clearly have little or no education and cannot speak and write English well enough to pass off as who they are supposed to be, others are well educated and far more clever and have developed a half decent potential scam.

I dealt with two where one was a University Graduate and the other was an import\export agent who was very successful in his own right but was operating on his own and working as a scammer on the side.

The one thing they all want is money and they are not bothered how they get it, the easy way for a few dollars or the more (slightly) sophisticated effort that I received above. Once they think they have their hooks in though, and especially if they have gained some cash out of someone, they will set about bleeding them ruthlessly dry.

Their greed can be their downfall though as one scammer I dealt with who was coaxed into assuming the identity of a person I manipulated him into. For 7 months I had him twisting and turning in the wind by various means and just missing out on really big "cash". I even got him to impersonate a member of a criminal gang using the the name "Hann Grenaide" He never got to realise he was being played with in all the time he was being strung along.

Eventually he admitted he also was ex university graduate and had two children and his wife was pregnant again. He turned to scamming because he thought it was easy money and he was desperate for cash. He never earned a penny though, he eventually realised that scamming does not bring in the cash as people think.

In fact most scammers are pretty unsuccessful and only the odd one can make some sort of living out of it.

Finally in some cases scamming is just part of what they do and they are involved in more serious criminal activities also.
