Insurance For A Desmo?

Discussion in 'Insurance - Sponsored by Ducati Insurance' started by Squadra Corse, Jun 10, 2018.

  1. Hi, could some owners suggest the best ways of getting insurance on a Desmo please? Any tips as to the most economical way to insure?
I'm 49, full bike licence since 94 (car 88) and continually insured, no accidents/claims ever, full NCB, clean licence, garaged, tracker etc etc and quoted £8500 with £4k excess on a £50k value with only 1000 miles pa !! Currently insured on a 1299S and an R6...
    Cheers

  2. I used to insure with Ducati Insurance. They weren't bad considering the value of the bike.

  3. What was a typical annual premium?

  4. About £1,400 iirc

I pay a lot less now, but I'm insured through a friend's broker on mates rates.

  5. OK thanks. I was only trying online comparison sites. I' s I'd need to be talking to a "specialist" for less mainstream bikes..

  6. A bike like this you should be making many phone calls to get the best terms/prices and do it every year especially when you get your insurance renewal through:upyeah:

  7. I don't have one yet. I was hoping to speed up the process of finding sensibly priced cover from existing owners tips or experience as I haven't had a great deal of spare time to chase never ending phone dead ends.

  8. Try Peter James insurance. Never used them myself but someone recently recommended them to me.
He has a Desmo insured with them I believe. Worth a shot.

  9. 8.5k seems to be the 'fek off, we're not interested' sum at the moment. I was quoted the same for my V4, with all the ridiculous restrictions you mention. Mind you, I've not had a bike registered on the road for years. I don't really enjoy road riding.
I've noticed a step change in insurance over the last couple of years. They've definitely become more hard arsed, obviously the premiums have rocketed, but they've become super strict on your history and conditions. It's probably as a result of the crash for cash and whiplash industry. And as usual, it's the innocent, go to work motorist that gets bummed for it.

  10. Peter James insurance. Birmingham.
