Many thanks for all the replies and sound advice. I'm going to leave it... I've hoping to get a pre-repaired Cat D or Cat C and turn that into a track bike myself. I can be sure of the history and real damage then. Only seeing lots of mopeds up on salvage sites so far; guess that cause of the weather. Booked with NL for Jerez in May so hopefully I'll find something by the end of March. Thanks again, Bob
That is the only way to do it! Don't go through some e bay story merchant and believe his rhetoric - try and find a stolen recovered that has had the ignition pulled out of it and the owner took the insurance payout rather than have it back
Or just buy one that is track ready. Mine is a 2010, race shock, reworked suspension etc etc £3500. No V5 but everything straight and not tampered. WIth T3 cup there are loads about
Minitwin? Got your name all over it. Comes with V5 and everything you could possibly need, well as long as you don't need more than 72bhp that is.
I think some of these breakers have a lot to answer for. I can imagine them looking a bike with a destruction order on it, yet good money to be made!
@bradders I'll let you know! I'm hoping to get an 899; but we'll have to see between now and the end of march. Not seen many of last seasons on sale yet. I'm not wishing for any forum members to have an off on an 899 and convert it to a Cat D; but every cloud... :tonguewink: 675R caught my eye 'cause of the price. Pretty solid bikes though @Drinky if only I weighed in at 7 Stone; it would be great !
I'm 14st and it's enough to put a big smile on my ugly grid. It has two throttle positions and one of them gets used a lot more than the other.
I wasnt looking at selling, only just bought it and nit even ridden it yet, just pointing out how cheap you can get a sorted one for. Made me think tho...
I remember seeing one of the first BMW M3 V8's going through a salvage auction on a "dolly" totally and utterly destroyed - it had cartwheeled and burned to a crisp (including the two young lads driving it - very sad. When it was announced off the rostrum that it wasn't insurance recorded or cat a,b,c or d listed because the owners son and his mate were driving it without permission and had easy access to the keys so insurers refused to pay out and it had a current V5! The night crawlers, chop shop Cowboys and dodge pots were fighting over it.There wasn't one single salvageable part that could be reclaimed and it sold for over£12,000.00! You just know that now the "buyer" had a V5 and a Chassis plate some poor bastard and his wife and kids were going to get their front door kicked in and probably be terrorised until his M3 keys were given up.The industry doesn't help itself and insurance companies have to accept a large proportion of the blame as they are encouraging this underground market
Look............I'll effing tell you again......... If it's a Cat B, it shouldn't exist on the track or on the road...... The frame, chassis or shell must be destroyed......Effing Full Stop.
Here is another picture of a Cat B bike I rode it for over 2,000 miles after the accident before it was assessed and declared a Cat B. A Cat B bike can look good if you take the right pictures. The damage to mine was reasonable minor looking, but was serious enough for it to be a Cat B.
If any bike has its numbers removed, then it is unidentifiable as anything. If it has no numbers, because of removal, its a wrong un.
Ahhhh, makes sense. I know all factory built vehicles, even race cars and bikes always have a chassis number.
No, just a vague recollection of something I read a while ago. The race bikes will have chassis / frame numbers, though not a VIN as such. I don't doubt people like HRC will have records, if only for knowing when frame was built, and what revision it is. Of course that is quite different to actually being registered.
Yes they do, if only for internal purposes. In the past some frames and crankcases have been made for spare parts stock without numbers by some manufacturers. I doubt if any still do so nowadays.
Neither of my ex Monster Mob/Stuart Easton engines have engine numbers stamped on the case nor does the spare set of brand new cases I got from the same source. Andy
