Is It Normal For Cat B Bike To Have Numbers Removed

  1. hmmm, some people seem to live by hearsay

  2. That figures, I understand many higher level race series have a limit as to how many engines you can use per season, it would make sense that some sort of identifying mark were essential, for the engine allowance.

  3. In my experience of CAT B write offs, my GPz was left to me to dispose of, and I did grind the chassis number off when I cut the frame up for scrap, the Yamasaki was taken away for disposal - it was in two separate pieces, so there was no way that frame was re used. In either case DVLA will remove the vin from their register, so if you were to apply for a log book it would (theoretically) be refused. Both of my cat B write offs come back as 'no details held' when you search for the reg number.

Of course, DVLA being DVLA I'm sure a few slip through the cracks, but even if a cat B did have a chassis number it wouldn't mean anything.

  4. Yikes, is that still the case in superbikes? MotoGP are limited to 12 engines per contracted rider per season.

  5. That would make sense. I would be interested to see if any sort of refresh work is allowed on the MotoGP engines, or if they are sealed in the way engines were in one make series.
