Italian 888 Purchase

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by farmster, Nov 23, 2017.

  1. Hi everyone
    I’ve recently bought the 888
That was advertised on the 851/888
    Facebook group.
I’ve left a substantial deposit & im not worried about it being a rouge deal.
    But just your thoughts .......
He’s already registered it in my name in Italy because I’ll be picking it up over Christmas & the authorities will obviously be closed.
I will be bringing all of the original documents back to the UK with me & then sending them back for him to return the reg plates.
My question is do I need a certificate of conformity if I have the log book in my name ?
I’ve printed all the forms off from the Hmrc “clear as mud”
    I’m pretty sure I won’t have to pay Vat as it’s 24years old & done 30k ?
    Thanks in Advance
    Paul.

  2. I can't help you with any of that, but...............COLGRATULATIONS !!!!!!!! :grinning:

  3. A c of c would certainly smooth the progress of obtaining a UK registration, that is if a c of c was issued as far back as that. Have a safe journey and I hope everything goes smoothly. The 888 is a very nice thing :upyeah: Andy

  4. Probably. As it’s not UK registered. Same as bringing someone in from Eire

  5. Going through same process at the moment
Get as much original documentation as to identity and age of bike as you can
Photocopy it as some of it gets retained
I have ended up having to use the bike identification service that Ducati Owners Club offer
    All the best

  6. No vat to pay due to mileage - nothing to do with age.

  8. Congratulations.

But I wouldn't be advertising to the whole world the address where a nice 888 will be stored.

    Nasher.

  9. Opps !
    It won’t be there !
My bikes are tucked away with my classic cars.
Just wanted other people to see the documents as I’m baffled

  10. You will have to apply for a NOVA within 14 days of the vehicles arrival or you may have to pay a penalty.
It’s straightforward just register for a government gateway account and go from there. I did one for a 350lc that came from Germany it only took 20 mins.

  11. Looks like a real nice exemple.
What is strada with SP5 seat?

    Henk!!!

  12. Yes

  13. I imported a Motoguzzi from Italy 2 years ago, I went over to view/buy it paid cash and got all the documents (like you have) but in the name of the chap I bought it from.

Shipped it here did the Nova, no VAT required as it was old, No COC required as it was more than 10 years old.

I insured it on the frame no. (still had Italian reg plate fitted) so that I could ride it to an MOT station, once MOT'd I filled in the DVLA form and sent it off with the NOVA certificate, MOT certificate and original Italian 'libretto' along with a cheque for the the registration fee + 1 yrs road tax (presume you could go straight to SORN if required?).

Within around a week I got back a V5 with age-related no. plate and a new MOT certificate (with UK reg no. rather than frame no.), N.B. they don't return the Italian documentation.

I sent back the reg. plate back to the guy in Italy (as agreed at the sale) so that he could return it to the authorities and therefore de-register it from him.

All in I was impressed with how easy the whole procedure was - not often you hear praise for the DVLA.

Nice bike you've got there BTW. :upyeah:

  14. I have a huge soft spot for these

  16. I looked into this with the Guzzi and there were insurance complications, making it almost impossible. Not to mention that it was ultimately cheaper to ship it plus I decided against risking a 1,000 mile journey on a 35 year old Italian bike with unknown service history that had not been ridden for a few years.

Turned out to be the right decision when the engine went 'bang' after 500 miles....

  17. That's a great looking bike, bet you're not sleeping at night just dreaming of that, well done mate. Look forward to seeing more pictures when you have it home...
