I've Realized Something Very Essentail I'll Need When On A Bike Here...

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by JIMMYRAY31B, Jul 18, 2014.

  1. Road scheme seems simple enough.

That Garmin would work, but I could spend less money on a Bluetooth set-up using my cell phone. The Garmin is something I can keep in mind though.

  2. I'm almost positive someone you will know will have one they aren't using! it can be a pain getting 10 figure grids for the destination though!

  3. I'm liking these set ups the more I look through them.

  4. if you get really stuck jimmy, ive a m8 who offered me a tt rider v2 dirt cheap a while ago,he might still have as hes a right hoarder.
hasnt got the handlebar socket bit with it(well it has, but its broken, doesnt charge etc, happens a lot with them apparently) but ive seen it works/charges off the mains.

i didnt have it cos im better with a map/signposts n "asking" lol.

  5. Thanks, I'll keep it in mind.

  6. The UK is pretty good for road signs Jimmy. You should be okay. Just remember you cannot turn on red lights like you can in USA.

  7. lol

Yeah, I have no problem with the system here. I actually like driving here more then the USA. But having a GPS in the car has come in handy for the wife and I. For the bike, it's more of a just-in-case thing. Specially when I have the misses on the back, the last thing I want is her complaining when I get lost! lol Then I'll just have to kick her off and she can walk(not really)

  8. You are allowed to filter too in UK, which I was surprised to find out was not appreciated stateside but hey catch me yank. :p

  9. Yep, I also love how everyone fully gears up here. That's how I ride and when I did it in the states, you wouldn't believe how many funny looks I'd get wearing a 1 or 2 piece suit.

  10. I have used my iPhone this week using maps on my phone to get around Sussex I just pressed start and Siri did the rest
I do like driving with miles instead of in a 100 yards as I havnt a clue how far 100 yards is :-/
And Siri doesn't keep on like the woman on Tom Tom

  11. You have to gear up here. The motorists are dangerous and there are less coppers about than the USA. I could not believe how many plod you american motorists have to put up with. Theyre everywhere. Over here...well...hardly any traffic cops.

  12. Bollocks. :p

(actually the voice on mine is Darth Vader - "Turn Left for the Dark Side"

  13. Lol

I thought Siri had gone to sleep or the connection had ended but he comes alive just before you need to turn
    I like that :)

  14. "You have reached your destination, but you are not a Jedi yet" is my fave.

  15. well i use a scarla rider Q3 which links to phone via Bluetooth with in ear moulded plugs which are perfect, my son and i can have a conversation (at any speed) with no problem i also dare i say link this to my Zumo660 which is fab (a bit more up to date than road signs when youve got your head done and *rse up happy ridding !!

  16. Good idea, you never know what nutters you'll meet...

  17. If you don"t want to pay, Navfree is a free IPhone app that has worked just as well as TomTom has for me (I ran both simultaneously and the free one gave the same directions)

  18. Where does the M1 start?

  19. Take it up with the 1920's transport authority. That's how it works, you can't argue with it.

  20. Ive recently sorted something similar for the Multi, I had an older iphone 3gs kicking about so got the Ultimate addons waterproof case and quick release bar clamp, its great and cheap.

next i needed sat nav that works without needing to use data and just GPS, obviously this means you need the maps stored locally.

I have Tom tom loaded on it but also this Nav Free - Navfree GPS UK & ROI + Street View on the App Store on iTunes

Nav free is very very good for free software, sat nav is just as good as tom tom, you just buy the maps you need but i think you get the first one free so obviously pick the UK.

It has a nice little google search function so if you have data or wifi connection you can google search a place and if thats linked up to google directions you simply hit the button that says 'route here' and off you go.

its a good enough set up for me and im yet to need more
