Jaecoo Cars

  1. Refuse to work on them, because as you said you can't get spares or information.
Even the shops that sell them new can't fix them

  2. I think it’s fair to say this ain’t looking good @El Toro

An enlightening thread for me nonetheless. I’d never heard of em o_O

  3. Omoda and Jaecoo are part of Chery and are the 4th largest manufacturer in China I think.

They offer 3 levels of car in Europe as far as I can tell........The Chery Tiggo (5, 7, 8 and 9) which is aimed at the "budget" market, the Omodo (5, 7, 8 and 9) which is the "sport" brand, and the Jaecoo 5, 7 and 9 which is the "luxury/premium" brand. The platforms (5, 7 8 and 9) are used across the ranges which helps to keep costs down.

I've just spoken to a pal in the motor trade who sells mid/high end and he said not to knock them as European manufacturers are shitting themselves :)

  4. I had a look at them yesterday and they seem well made and the tech on them is amazing. The doors have a satisfying clunk to them when you shut them too.

And apparently the Jaecoo 7 has been the UK's best selling model over the last 3 months.

  5. As has been said earlier, the most important thing about buying a vehicle is the after-sales service. Are there technicians near to where you live who are trained to fix it and most importantly of all is spare parts availability. Body parts, electronics etc because it will very likely need some attention after say an accident or a parts failure. Ring up the dealership and ask for delivery on say a new electronic component like a parking sensor and ask for the timescale for aa new rear panel.

I listen to the Cycle World podcast, Kevin Cameron might sound like an old blusterer but he tips his hat to Honda and how they engineered great small capacity engines and built a strong dealer network when they entered a country.

I think the Chinese are coming, but only those which adhere to the spare parts and great dealership investment will survive and would get my hard earned cash.

  6. It seems as if you’ve talked yourself into it regardless of the risks. I do it all the time so no shade intended! ;)

  7. My Son-in-law is FD for Ron Brooks. They were primarily Toyota Main Dealers but have now taken on dealership for Jaecoo and Omoda. He's VERY impressed with them (even in private ;))

  8. Manufacturing supply outstripping domestic uptake resulting in excess vehicles being dumped on international markets without the supporting infrastructure. Sounds familiar and KTM springs to mind. We are already seeing partnerships between Chinese and Indian manufacturers to open up other markets and use other manufacturers technology. An ever increasing reliance on China for manufacturing is going the same way as single source computer chip manufacture and the provision of the internet held by a few, single point failure resulting in world chaos :bomb: Andy

  12. once there is several years on em, very few in the trade

  13. Beware El Toro , my humble opinion is Japanese cars or Fords most reliable. That will spark off some debate.......?

  14. For all their potential good points, every review I have looked at says they are less than inspiring to drive and are somewhat uncomfortable; looks like a long test drive is required to see if you can put up with it.

  15. This Mug for one. I've had my Discovery 4 for 12 years and 180k miles. I have no plans to swap it for anything else. It still ticks all my boxes. And I had 2 previous model Discoverys that were faultless for 200k miles each.

  16. Looking at the second hand prices on EV’s even the big European brands I think for the first time I’d go for PCP finance, just hand it back in 3 years. I was reading an article the other day saying the battery life is far longer than expected and some brands inc Tesla are doing 2 - 300000 miles on the original battery.

  17. Where though? I suspect that will only be in temperate climates as extreme heat and cold shortens battery life.

  18. It may be snobbery, but I have always viewed those as poor man's cars. Deutschland uber alles.......:upyeah:

  19. A Chap that had a puppy from us last year drives a 7 year old Tesla (had it from new). He's a really nice human, educated and seriously wealthy (really VERY seriously). He has a home in Kent and another in the Swiss Alps and frequently drives between the two summer and winter in his Tesla (so he can take his dog with him). I was with him in the summer and he was adamant that the (original) battery performance is only just a tiny shade down on when it was new.

  20. Contrary to received wisdom, extreme heat is more damaging than extreme cold.
