The only ex WSBK riders in the last 15 years that went to MotoGP (and had more than 1 ride) that have/had any longevity are Colin Edwards (2003 - 2014) and Cal Crutchlow (2011 - present). Colin never won a race and Cal has won 2 so far, neither came close to troubling the top 3, even on factory equipment. Could Rea succeed ? IMO, no. Andy
This is what I’m thinking mate, people keep banging on about how Rea was quick at a test and almost on Motogp times.. Well they’re very different things aren’t they. And Rea hasn’t done carbon brakes for a start. Or got any data to go off. That ZX10 of his could almost ride itself, not taking anything away from the man
If Kawasaki had a team in MotoGP, Jonny Rea would get a few goes and see how well he adapts. But they don't, so he could only try a GP bike by leaving Kawasaki first. And he's unlikely to do that, given the way he has dominated the class for three years. So no, this is not going to happen any time soon.
I remember when Toseland went into moto gp. He was doing okay for a rookie but a few complained his wsb style of mixing it up so his team told him to back off and never saw the good results and I think? that was his only season.
