Just Another Newbie With All The Gear & No Idea...yet!

  2. Welcome, i love my street fighter too ,a quick shifter is a must ,best thing on mine . Mine is also lumpy at the bottom end and is going for a remap soon . I had the throttle bodies sorted but still needs a remap ,i have a Austin ,very loud , pipe . Enjoy

  3. Welcome. Great Car and Bike- and well placed in Cheshire to enjoy both when the sun shines!

    My old Monster 796 was lumpy as hell in lower gears and up to 30 mph. Some O2 sensor eliminators solved my problem for me.
     
  4. As above....get it on the dyno, go somewhere like CJS racing where he doesnt piss about with power commanders and flashes the ecu directly....other benefits will come from that also. Id say change the clutch slave for an Oberon aftermarket one (itll lighten the clutch up by about 10 - 20%) - if youre feeling really rich (staring at the car in the background) change the master also - youll be able to operate the clutch with 2 fingers then. Ive got a hyper 1100 and can crawl through traffic at 0 - 10 mph staying in the same gear.

  5. Hiya and welcome onboard. I’m fairly new here too — they haven’t sussed me out yet... shh! You’ll enjoy it here. They’re a really knowledgable friendly bunch @ anything Duke related.

    I base this next remark on your Bikesafe comment, so apologies if I’m way off the mark.

    I congratulate you on taking the bikesafe route, may I suggest that the next think is getting some advanced bike training under your belt. It doesn’t matter whether it’s IAM or ROSPA or one of the private companies about.

    Ridiculed by some, mainly power ranger wannabees, it is a skill that will stay with you for life, you’ll be as quick if not quicker than you are now, it’ll benefit your car driving, and you can take from it exactly what you want. I actually ride my own version having taken into account learning and advice.
    An anorak and nerdy accent are definitely not compulsory and you don’t even have to socialise (I don't).

    Whatever you do, enjoy those lovely machines and stay safe:upyeah:

  6. Lots of great advice guys thanks, I'll start by saying that tonight I installed the DQS and gave it a quick run, absolutely love it already.

    As for future mods I'm going to hold and get some miles under my belt, but I already find the clutch hard work so the idea of changing that to get a much easier to use clutch is tempting, even with the DQS.

    I've also been told to consider AIM so I'll look into that if only to get an excuse to ride more :D

  7. What aftermarket mast clutches do you recommend?
    Do you still need an Oberon slave if you change the Master?
    Ive seen clear glass clutch housings on some pictures, are these the clutches your preferring to?
     
  8. No the clear view of the clutch is just decor.

    I haven't changed a master cylinder but I'd be interested to know from others if this does help lighten the clutch more.

    I have changed a slave cylinder to an Oberon slave, that definitely helped lighten the clutch. Suggest you start there. I put a red one on, then regretted the colour change. Too blingy.

    Very nice looking bike. For the less knowledgeable of us, what's the car. At first glance I thought it was a 360 but is it an F430 Spider? Also nice.
     
  9. Aftermarket slave and master cylinders are not magical. They work by giving you more mechanical advantage or leverage to overcome the clutch spring pressure.
    That mechanical advantage comes at a cost and that cost is less movement of the pressure plate for a given movement of the clutch lever.
    Because the movement of the clutch lever is finite and limited, there is a very real risk of the reduced movement of the pressure plate resulting in clutch drag, usually showing up as an inability to find neutral at rest. In fact, Oberon warn of this risk on their website.
    With careful bleeding though, it is usually possible to still get enough movement of the pressure plate to avoid drag.
    However, if you then add a smaller master cylinder to the already larger slave cylinder, imho, you will be reducing the movement of the pressure plate so much that drag will be more of a certainty than a possibility.

  10. I've had 3 Oberons on 2 hyper and a ktm and while I don't disagree with old rider all 3 of my experiences have been positive...

  12. Oberon slaves are a popular mod and clearly work well, although they do increase the need for making sure there is no air in the system.
    What I was querying is the wisdom of adding an aftermarket, smaller master cylinder if you already have a larger slave cylinder.

  17. Hi and welcome.
    You get used to the clutch after a while and your hand gets stronger.
    Check that the Ducati Performance map has been installed with your termis. It should read DP on the dash when you turn it on. Its not as good as a proper remap but its much better than the stock map around town.
    I also had to put some wrist bands over the brake/clutch reservoirs because they can be a bit leaky. I thinks it partly because they shake around so much.
     
  18. I am getting used to the brake and clutch the more a use it, what I have found is my old RST Pro Series winter gloves are to short, as i rest on the bars I can't fully extend my fingers which is a major issue, new gloves me thinks!!
    I checked my dash on ignition start and it does scroll "DS 848 DP" :)
     
  19. Aftermarket cranked levers would help with that
