  1. Waiting for MotoGP to start, got bored and decided to do one of the things I wanted to do with the new bike, check the coolant level. What a ball ache to check. In the end I threw a bit of green translucent tube on I had kicking about. I’ll still need to pull the side fairing off to check the level but at least now it’s visible.

  5. Got round to fitting a few more bits I’ve been collecting today.
Got the Evotech upper and lower rad guards fitted. De pinned the clip ons and filed down the nips on the switch gear to lower them.
Fitted the brake and clutch master clear tube after having fitted the smoked res’.
Biggest job was fitting the new bulbs for the high beams. What a ball ache. Took nearly 4 hours to get all that lot done!

  6. That’s a bloody long bulb change! Break any?

  7. Not much, Rich. Did a few other bits and bobs while at it but it's a job and a half changing the high beams. Hope I didn’t touch the bulbs! :astonished:

  8. Managed to get a few bits done over Xmas. Got a new DP filler cap for less than half price, a DP light tint screen, got the TTX rear shock on and fitted the 1199 full exhaust with painted cans. Got another set of cans I’ll cut open and de cat when I’m back at work.
A new reg fixing plate made so I didn’t have to cut down the DP one and small reg plate siliconed on. (Hate the sight of reg plate plastic bolts). A few carbon bits here and there for good measure and everything back together and just in need of the new fairing lowers and windscreen re wrapping.

  9. @bettes.
The rear TTX you’ve put on. Is that specifically for the 899 or 1199? I see you’ve used the 1199 rear shock mounting triangle too; with P/F adjustment. Is there a specific reason to use this one as opposed to the 899 one?
    Cheers.

  10. Hi mate. Not sure which bike the shock was off. I’ve tried using google images to find out but there seems to be at least 3 or 4 TTX variants between the 1199 and 1299. The DU shock number didn’t really help much either. Checked the eye to eye centres and with the built in length adjuster, got the new shock exactly the same length as the std one it replaced. I also checked the ride height before removing the old one and set the new one up the same. Got it to within a few mm.
Don’t think the rocker will make much difference as I’ve set it to P. Only fitted it cause I might have a dabble with the flat position in the future.

  11. Cheers for that.
Know what you mean about the TTX numbers; confusing as hell.
When I rang Ktech to ask what the difference was between their 898 & 1199 rears his answer was shock lengths are slightly different.
I’m running the standard rear shock on my 899, with 1199 rear shock triangle and 1199 sssa. Interesting to see our threaded link bar shows the same amount of exposed thread.

  12. Those tie bars aren’t really adjustable. They’re notched twice so you can change between the F & P positions but nothing in between. I’ve just found this bit out while fitting mine and don’t know why they’ve done it that way? There are plenty of proper after market ride height adjusters about. Maybe because the TTX shock has a bit of height adjustment, they left the rod that way...

  13. @Biot, This is the one I bought.

Just had a look through the messages from the seller and he said it was off a 1299R.

  14. Slight fuzzy head this am but I am fairly sure the Ohlins site lists the specific shock by bike? IIRC (which is a challenge today :dizzy:)

  15. @Expat Jack, you’d have thought so. Google says DU 9550 is off the 1299R but the Ohlins site doesn’t show anything for it.

  16. When it’s a teeny tiny bit warmer I’ll blat down to MCT on the 899 and ask lots of questions whilst pointing at my hybrid set up rear shock :upyeah:

  19. Mine isn't the standard listed Ohlins either mate, it has the tiny adjusters which seem to suggest it's a TTX GP MK2 but again the Ohlins info doesn't come up on their site. I've got the original email though that was supplied with the shock and the serial numbers match from the Ohlins guy so I just think they aren't great at listing them in the search.

I am however running the standard linkage, unless you want to switch to flat linkage for track, personally I would just run the 959 Linkage which tbh looks lighter than the 1299 one.

BTW... After (I think) your comments about the pivot bolt, I put something on twitter about whether I should get a spider brace, and the owner of a respected Ducati dealer PM'd me and said I didn't need it, I just need high tensile bolts which are £4 and will ensure it never fails. He said he's NEVER seen a road bike/trackday rider have an issue, it's only been crashed race bikes that then fail and bikes where the bolts are being re-used and often over torqued that then fail. So there is a chance yours has been on/off a few times.

  20. Cheers Phil. Thanks for sharing...
@Phill748 that's what got me thinking about the rear rocker. It would make sense to run progressive for the road and flat for track but I’ve read loads of posts with people saying they couldn’t get on with P for the road and put their setting back to F for the road and found it to be better? Suppose this is why I fitted this rocker so I could have a dick about with it later on...
