If you know/can find out how much he paid DK for it, that would, by most measures, qualify as Fair Market Value, given it was offered for sale, and sold, in the (international/internet) market. From @Zhed46 's advice, you'd be entitled to offer him the difference between what he paid (FMV) and your costs as settlement. You'd then be free to sell the bike and hopefully make a margin to compensate for the aggro
Hi paul I have repeatedly told him he needs to pay 300€ release for storage and my moving it I reduced my fee to 150€ From 190€ but I think 3 months storage and the moving at 300 was pretty fair in any language. I emailed him last night to tell him it is still here I’m awaiting response, I’m aware I technically shouldn’t sell it so I have not but this will cost him more as the peanuts storage fee is different now since his threats to my mate I have lost my rag on this. I’m disappointed some think I should have just took this to Germany easy to sit at a computer knocking me but I promise you the amount of shit I have to deal with by the public I get dropped and messed about regularly or have been....nobody knows what doing multiple jobs to multiple locations is like, it can be seriously difficult especially abroad there’s language and navigation issues it’s not as easy as in the uk which itself can be testing in itself. This bike was going above Frankfurt that’s a long way for 190€ I actually originally said 250€ but he was whinging on that I delivered one for 190€ before so I relented but I only did one at 190€ as I was going past the place or near on, he has since offered 300€ For it to be taken by me or another how very kind? So why barter me down from what I wanted? He has an offer online of 235€ plus charges on anyvan right now but has not taken it ...the bloke is a twat
But you’ve literally turned work down? You got there first so you got the job? I agree he’s been a bit of an idiot but you’ve cut your nose off to spite your face on this one.
190€ job joe to above frankfurt plus the collection in Newcastle under Lyme and storage until I would have set off ...I do understand your point and been honest I wasn’t full of joy agreeing to do it but I would have, seeing he had advertised made it an easy decision to just not start the work search and inform him he needed to get another transporter to collect it ....let’s face it his biggest issue is paying a reasonable amount to transport as I am notoriously cheap and that stems from having a stroke so I am forced to take work any work at nearly any price and I’m not stupid enough to not know this but that’s life and at least I’m lucky enough to be able to function I’m one of the lucky ones....I do things too cheap to get work I feel I have no choice, not always sometimes things are very fair or people are very fair and kind but many times it’s just because I’ll do stuff cheap, I won’t lose out on this bike I’ll get a wage somehow
It’s not a bad idea except that he might have bought it at below market value with a view to sale at a profit. Also, the less fungible (interchangeable for another item) a chattel is, the less likely the court is to look kindly on exercising that sort of self help. However given the low value and the cross jurisdictional issues, it’s unlikely to be a problem. I’m only saying this in case at a later date someone unearths this thread and does that with something mega-valuable or rare
Agree this thread is a good tool for people in various situations to take information from could be very useful and personally I appreciate every post and opinion
