Matt Black - Thumbs Up Or Down?

Discussion in 'Diavel & XDiavel' started by Jose Franco, Mar 10, 2018.

  1. I have been advised that Matt black can look tired after a few years and that although it looks good new a buyer should really stay away from it.

May I have your views here please... Was going to pull the trigger on a matt black but wanted to check first with he people in the know

    Thank you

  2. Where's the poll? It's so 90's

  3. Heard the Matt paint can’t mark easily??

  4. help please, I was going to pull the trigger on a 2015 matt black diavel however a friend has said the matt black does not age well and I would be better off with a gloss colour such as red or black.

Couldn't get the views of yourselves in the forum please.

I thank you in advance for your time

  5. Buy the one you like, and if time does not look after it, get it painted :upyeah:
However, I have heard no issues with it.

  6. Did you mean to say can or can't mark easily?

  7. ? You lost me... Poll??

  8. You asked thumbs up or thumbs down but never set a poll for people to vote :)
But all you have to do is ask this geezer: @rob lewis and he will tell you what you need to know :)

  10. I has an R1 with both Matt and gloss black fairings. They were both as easy as each other to clean, and certainly looked good at 3 years old.

    Ps threads merged

  11. Thanks

  12. Sorry meant to say can mark easily

  13. From what I can see most are matt black or a mix of matt black and a colour (white or red).

  14. Anything matt is incredibly hard to maintain.....if you have scratches etc there is nothing that can be done to a matt finish....anything that can be done to remedy swirls etc will leave gloss....personally I would stay away from anything matt IMHO....

  15. Anything and I mean anything you do to try to remedy any imperfections in matt, will result in altering the characteristics of the matt finish...resulting in more gloss...

  16. Thanks Rob, now I'm stuck... Do I get one and just think "bugger it" or do I go for a gloss finish in black?

  17. My Diavel (Dark, Stealth or whatever...matt black) is 3 years old and still looking great.
It is possible to 'fix' small areas that have been polished, for example the pillion cover where careless riders have rubbed their boot across it when getting on and off the bike. That said, you do need to take a bit more care with matt of any colour.

  18. You could have it coated which will offer enhanced protection to the matt finish and offer you swirl resistance - there are a few VERY specialised coatings developed for matt.....but they are not the holy grail or bullet proof and like any coatings they need to be maintained properly....

  19. Had a Matt black monster for several years which I rode all year round & allways came up a treat after a good clean

  20. Shiny glossy red for me :)
The Diavel does look good in black too
