Minority governments have to win arguments to get legislation through, therefore it should be pretty decent legislation. Worked well here with minority SNP gvt. SNP don't use the word socialism. Social democracy - yes. Anyway, does being that patronising come easily to you or do you work at? Do you have a view on "black" socialism"? What does "tartan socialism" mean anyway? I think the Scottish people would be happy for trident to be out the Clyde. Another damning HSE report listing a whole raft of accidents involving radioactive materials. Austerity, is trying to solve a crisis created by the super rich by removing money and imposing another crisis on the very poorest. It's wrong. Non one denies there is a problem, but your average joe, like you, me and the very poorest should not be paying for it. SNP are not "cuckoos". Could you have any less respect for the will of a substantial part of the UK population? Two years of "better together" lies and as soon as the notion is tested, liebour and Tories are talking about a grand coalition to ensure our legitimate voice is not heard. It seems we are not the "equal partners in the family of nations" as Cameron always went on about. Lies, lies, lies. Grand coalition = near immediate exit of Scotland from the UK (this not the break up of the UK)
She confirmed this morning, Trident is a red line. Wherever that came from its incorrect. SNP leaders can't change policy on the hoof. It gets voted on by its 100,000 members. Eg NATO membership. It's a truly Democratic Party with lively, not stage managed conferences.
The SNP are not offering coalition. It would be ridiculous to have an SNP minister for health or education or anything else which is devolved. They have offered confidence and support on votes which effect Scotland. Anything which doesn't affect Scotland, they will not interfere in. It's not coalition. So the exact opposite is true, they have morals and ethics. Additionally, they share many policies and opinions in common, with their MPs and membership, even though this is not reflected in policy these days. 50% of labour MPs want to scrap trident.
I think you'll find that I never said the SNP were considering or offereing a coalition - I said "would" not "are"... And the "50% of labour MP's" that want to scrap Trident have been gagged and kept at the back, out of the way, since Blair figured out that if a labour government scrapped the nuclear deterent he woiuldn't be able to ponce about on a world stage pretending to be the all-powerful leader of a great nation and would probably have to give up the UK's seat on the UN defence council - which is, after all, the only reason we still have a nuclear deterent... I would also point out that Scotland has had its referendum - the "Independance" side lost... The fact that a substantial minority don't like that fact doesn't alter it...
The first duty of government is the defence of the realm. All else is subordinate. Or was. But not any more. The first duty of government now it seems is re-election at any cost and national defence is expendable when the money for bribing voters has run out. Its debatable whether the UK (with or without Scotland) can continue to be a member of NATO with our defence spending falling below 2% of GDP. The three Westminster parties are determined to push it down even further and Philip Hammond has allegedly said there are no votes in defence spending.
Get real, the SNP are salivating at the prospect of holding the balance of power in Westminster, if you think they will restrict their voting to matters which only affect Scotland you are even more naive than think you are. In a way I would welcome more SNP MPs at Westminster, I think it would force a real debate on where we want to go as a nation.
I would welcome a minority government over a coalition government. I am sure they don't, and neither did New Labour. Ah yes, play the "race" card. So you would conflate Defense of the Realm with HSE ? And so is living beyond your means and passing on that debt to future generations who will have to pay the interest on it. You lost, get used to it.
I would also point out that Scotland has had its referendum - the "Independance" side lost... The fact that a substantial minority don't like that fact doesn't alter it...[/QUOTE] the only argument that many can think off. voting no wasn't a vote for conservative or labour it was fear from the majority of pensioners. i guess thats why pensioners seem to get targeted so much by the mainstream party's.

No we don't. The UK is a single nation. We elect our parliamentary representatives every five years and from them a national government is formed. General elections are UK elections, they are not English elections. The Westminster parliament is a national parliament (in which Scotland has a stronger representation per capita than any other region of the country), it is not an English parliament.
if it follows that majority rules then wheres the majority. i think it;s time we accept we have different issues. not saying it's all bad that would be mad, but whats wrong with going for better.(for us up here) that's politics init? hurry up wife i need to get oot.
She's doing a little Highland Fling around that red line then. Breaking News! Latest Conservative Manifesto promotes 100,000 new bricklaying apprenticeships in Northern England. "Maintaining our borders in the future will be essential" said Cameron in his vision of the future statement (nicknamed the Hadrian was right clause).
Independent analysis has shown that the SNP budget would pay down the deficit quicker Han the Tory budget and quicker than the SNP predict. Trident defends nothing.......didn't defend the Falklands, stop 7/7 etc. the military is supposed to defend the nation not kill its own. Lastly, you were the one to introduce nationality, not me. You played that card, not me.
64% of people in England would be unhappy with the SNP having influence over policy - latest Ashcroft Poll. That's fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Just brings me back to what I said at the referendum. Different countries, different problems, different political ethos - time we wished each other well, went our seperate ways and became good neighbours. That is the only solution. The majority in England do not approve of SNP policies and are not happy with having them applied to them. The fact that this happens more often than not from England to Scotland just does not register with these people. The conclusion is therefore we are not Better Together.
I keep seeing the title of this topic which appears to suggest that Miliband has had a vasectomy............. On the basis of what is gradually being revealed I think all politicians should be castrated.
