Monster S4 916 will not start, no spark

  1. I had an issue with a connector corroded behind the radiator, it's a bugger to get too though

  3. a very common fault at one time with fiats changed many 10s of them always checked the resistance of them and quite often within spec and pretty much identical to look at. . i know they are shimmed but on some diesel 1900 engines we where trimming them to reduce the air gap. also from what i can remember identical to look at as the ones used by ducati. 700-800ohms?. if it hasn't been changed i wouldn't rule it out and not overly expensive.
     
  4. That gives me more confidence finm, 860 +/- 10 percent at 20 deg C is figure I have from Bosch data sheet. Is my next step to change it.
     
  5. Tried another timing sensor (CPS), still only fires once when cranking. With CPS out (but still connected) it will spark each time if a piece of iron (spanner) put on and off end of sensor. Toothed ring on crank all looks good, nothing missing/broken. Tried closing gap to 0.2mm with same effect, only fires once when cranking.Even though previously tried, Ignition and injector relays bypassed. Same result. Loosing the will. If I lived next to a cliff it would be on its way down by now!!!!
     
  6. dont know construction of phonic wheel is it pressed or bolted on? what a cock. might be time for a dealer/specialist visit.
     
  7. Don't know, not had one apart (yet!). Just had look in parts catalogue but couldn't find it. Dealer 66 quid per hour and will start from scratch.....not good. Did also wonder if timing had slipped (pressed on) but would still spark (at wrong time). What is now happening is that if I give it a prolonged crank on the starter it will fire once and maybe, but not consistantly, will fire again after 10-15 seconds or so. Seems so simple grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!
     
  8. and it deffo doesn't spark when bumping? 3wires no chance of short on shield wire in loom.
     
  9. Same effect turning back wheel in gear. Wire loom all looks good with no chafs or other visible damage. Haven't tried insulation check wire to wire, wire to shield or wire to ground yet, could be worth a try. Would expect no spark at all but then again, have exhausted all things/knowledge and patience.   10. got one in my hand with the two lugs facing down left and center= windings right wire shielding no continuity between that and other two wires in loom but i suspect you know that. feeling you pain dude.
     
  11. Thanks. Wire to wire, wire to ground/shield ok. The timing sensor I was supplied with locally is a Mageti Marelli ne (the original being Bosch). Just check its resistance at 1010 ohms. Bosch one is 860 +/- 10 per cent. Part of me wants to believe that this is the problem and part of me says "don't buy another sensor!!!" However, it's the best I can come up with.......I think I'm turning Japenese, I think I'm turning Japenese, I really think so. See,........ this is the point I'm at, song lyric drivel.
     
  12. the one i have here which i know is ok (miss diagnoses turnd out to be faulty starter causing no spark) 816 ohms.

  16. Oh. The original one in my bike was Bosch 0 261 210 124.. Which is same as Fiat Bravo/Brava 1.2. Hence I have my locally sorced one from Unipart which is the MagnitiMarelli so called equivalent.The Ducati part number is 552.4.020.1A and the price is x3 of course. Nil stock near me but have one in central London about 25 miles from me.
