Monster Woes

Discussion in 'Monster' started by Shah, Oct 25, 2018.

  1. Hi All, havent been on this forum much as i switched over to a il4 - which i still have but needed a ducati in the garage....so i went and bought a monster 1100 evo without viewing of someone who seemed trustworthy! i think i was wrong to do so!

    The bike came with some problems....i.e. leaky seals and dodgy bearing which are all sorted or in the process of. The issues I cant seem to sort out are the flashy dash and the idle stalling.

    When i start the motor cold, it will run perfect for a few seconds, before slowing down and coming to a stall. When warm, the same thing but if i blip the throttle, it will idle at around 2.5k, if i let the clutch go to around biting point, it will idle normal for a few seconds, then splutter to a stop - same as a cold start. after the bike is turned off, a very slight tapping noise comes from the bike

    I've tried the following;

    1. tried a used regulator
    2. used a torch to check rubber hoses for splits
    3. as the o2 sensors are unplugged and what looks like resistors connected, ive connected them back up to the bike (makes it worse)
    4. unplugged the bazzaz FI controller

    im starting to think that its either the stepper motor - but i have no idea how to test, clean or even identfy the part! so im asking for some help;

    Anyone got experience or suggestions on my issues?
    COuld someone put me in the right direction on how to test the stepper motor?

    thanks in advance

  2. I think this one is fuel injection. On my Monster S4R, I had an issue with Rickover being unpredictable and difficult to set. This was caused by the TPS being out. I didn't sort it out but it was Lougi Moto in Somerset and it has run perfectly ever since.

  3. thanks, ive tried him...he has a long list of broken ducatis in his workshop right now!

  4. As he always does! Whereabouts in the UK are you? There are a few good Ducati specialists dotted around. I'm sure plenty of members will give recommendations if they know your area.

  5. Flushing the ICV with carb cleaner can improve things.

  6. Where is the icv,? I can't seem to locate it

  7. On the throttle body

  8. Is this is?

  9. Thanks Chris.
    Went to have a brief look and look like I'll need to remove the throttle bodies. Think its worth trying tho as it just a few hours of fun
