1299 'motogp Head Lift Stand Problems

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by V4Missile, Jun 4, 2020.

  1. I tried the Harris front stand a while back and it was beautifully made but I could not get it into position without scratching my front guard

  2. I put the pin in first then connect the stand. It's tight, clearance wise but no scratches on my c/f front mudguard.

  3. Panny pin I made for a pierobon stand.

  5. Agree, though good luck getting any response, let alone a stand, from Gee Tech (apart from when he 'borrowed' my photo for publicity without asking). I'm going to Harris for my headstock stand, so good to read here that they work well with the Pani. :upyeah:

  7. Had a bit of fun today - visited a friend’s workshop to be taught how to make a new pin for my Lightech headstock stand.

I originally ordered one from them direct (reactive parts) but although their site listed a 30mm pin for the Panigale it’s too big to fit and even if it had the pin wouldn’t fit the stand.

You can see from the below pictures - the original pin is in the right - far too small for a Panigale - but it did actually fit the stand!

The ‘panigale’ pin I was sent from lightech uk is on the left - not only is is too big to fit the headstock, the shaft is also too thin to fit the bearing that locates it in the stand and too short as well.

I sent them an email and they asked me to send it back, but for the money it just wasn’t worth my time - I knew from the design that even if they did send me one that fit the hole in the headstock it wouldn’t be right so resolved to make one myself.

What’s put me off lightech is that the site still lists the Panigale pin as 30mm - lazy considering I let them know it was wrong.

Anyhow - I learned how to machine one out of a steel bar today - very satisfying it was too! :)

Tried it and it fits a treat.

  8. Well done! Great to be able to adapt your stand to for other bikes especially.

Just had a look. Blimey, expensive those stands aren't they? Worth it? Are they better than the Harris ones?

  9. Cheers - I really enjoyed doing it!

I don’t have any direct experience of the Harris stands so nothing to compare with.

I doubt the lightech are any better - Harris Make great kit and there seems to be an extra level of height adjustment in the Harris stands that the Lightech one doesn’t have.

It does have some nice little pins for hold your brake callipers but I wouldn’t say that’s worth the extra cost over the Harris.

I picked it up on ebay - didn’t pay the new price so I’m very happy with it!
