Hello from an usually hot UK Bought a 1100s during the tail end of lockdown….I’m really a Cagiva Elefant guy…but nothing was available and bought the 1100s initially as a donor bike for a Elefant project. I have built various elefants from 800 sr2 and ST2 engined through to 888 and 999 4 valves. But never the last generation 2 valve 1100 type engine……hence this buy. Once I got it home…it was too good to act as a donor and I ended up buying an. ST3 as the intended donor elefant desert X bike So …getting back to the Ducati MTS 1100s…with its unusual moving fairing….not wanting to replicate a French police bike from the early sixties….this design ‘feature’ was first to go. A bit of searching and I uncovered DRAGON fairings in TOLEDO in Spain with an alternative MTS fairing design. Two designs are available one using a MTS headlight and the other more akin to Ducatis Latest MTS headlights. I chose the simpler and cheaper 1000MTS version. Next the exhaust and end cans along with re flashing of the ECU by those Avante guys in Chelmsford Essex. DucatiProteam in Kent have been my mechanics of choice ever since Mitch at TecMoto stopped in the early 2000s. Alex from DucatiProteam and Mitch were in the same race team in years gone by……and have worked on all my Ducati engined projects. Anyway….a trip to Spain and I brought back a Dragon MTS fairing as excess hand luggage and a set of PIAA LED spot lights where the front grill normally goes under the chin….and the transformation is starting in earnest. So I have some images of the bike to post and also some spare bits if anyone needs them…..likewise…I’ll detail how easy and how difficult the conversion was if anyone fancies doing it thanks Gavin944888 The Scottish Engineer
Hello…..here are some images…….this is the side view of the Dragon MTS fairing. Not a simple bolt on…..but not Rocket science either…..a lot of fettling. It basically replaces the complete top section of the OEM fairing ….as in the headlight section and the quirky moving screen. I chose to loose the MTS chin and wings to allow a more open look to mount those spot lights.
Not sure if this is the correct way to do this image posting ….but….. The headlight hole had to generally opened up a bit in all directions….typical GRP moulding Yellow Spot lights to match the Ohlins Forks……a bit of a style demon….not!
The fairing no longer moves with the handlebars and the screen on the new fairing section is an OEM Suzuki GSX 750 item…..all the work ……as in fine fitting and mounting was done by Alex @ DucatiProteam…..they also arranged the colour match and painting The clocks had to have a new bracket to lift the clocks to a better fixed position….but this bracket comes with the kit and there is enough on the loom to allow the new positioning. Only other trimming was to the infill panels on the inside of the fairing. thanks Gavin The Scottish Engineer
I hope that this helps anyone doing this conversion ……a very cheap way to get an exceptional looking 2 valve Multistrada…..in my opinion
So…..there you go….full ECU remap getting rid of cold start and changing the fueling for the non cat full Remus and Spark exhaust system (no collector box) A Dragon ESpania MTS 1000 front fairing with an American Mounting Lighting kit from Piaa and some fine fettling by DucatiProteam…..job done for now I hope that it might help you regards Gavin 944888 The Scottish Engineer
Now….the sales pitch Naturally there are bits that are of no use to me….but may be to you. Also….I want to recoup any monies I can with out feeling used and abused So here are images of what is avaible….they dismantled by Alex @ DucatiProteam….so they were dismantled with sympathy……and the smell of hippy oil Thanks Gavin944888 The Scottish Engineer
I might be interested in the upper moveable fairing - are all of the mounting points intact and useable? Do you have in mind a price including delivery costs? Thanks, Martin
How does the bike start and run since the remap? Although I agree the looks are funky, the bike itself is nice to ride, only the seat needs attention IMO. Thanks, Al ps, I tried to ring your mobile no but all I got was some italian guy who told me to fuck off!
Do you have a link on the company that has this, I have looked but can't find it. Very interested in doing this to mine because I hate the stock windscreen. Thanks
