Multistrada 1260s Leaking Oil Cooler.. Help!

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Oily Peter, Oct 6, 2024.

  1. Has any members had experience with leaking Oil Coolers ?

Traveling back from Scotland, after about 130 miles, when stopped and noticed Oil on my right boot!
At first it looked like the fork seal had gone.. loads of bumpy roads, pot holes etc, No big surprise.
Decided to carry on home taking it easy.
When home I found that there was an oily film all over the front of the bike - forks, Radiator, cooling hoses etc.. On further investigation it looks like the Oil Cooler has become 'porous'. The engine oil was down by about 200 ml and to confirm my suspicion I cleaned all the oil away using brake cleaner. Dried everything off with an air line. then started the bike, brought the bike up to temperature, revving it to 3-4K revs. The oil leak only showed up when blowing compressed air through the Oil Cooler (see Photo's)

Have you any advise you can share when replacing the Oil Cooler?
Did you replace the fittings and how did you go on torquing them up?

ps. I did have an Evotech guard fitted and there are no signs of any damage.
