1200 Multistrada Pr4 Actual Pressures

  1. No a slow speed effect :p

Seriosuly tho, some peolpe dont like a quick turn tyre, some like me do.

  2. It's not the speed of the turn in it is the lack of neutrality once in the turn and the feeling of having to actively hold it back from tightening up.

And we are talking on the road here ;)

  3. your front tyres screwd jv. replace it.

  4. I noticed this at the end of last year and last month (do not ride in the winter) and was about to experiment with pressures but got a puncture so had to replace both. I was recommended to Pirelli Angels as my old ones were squared off according to my dealer. I am an old duffer so spend most of my riding up straight and I had massive chicken strips on my old ones.
Bike feels like new again next.

  5. From using different tyres on a track day GSXR750, I was advised by my tyre dealer that Michelins have quite a 'pointy profile' compared to metzeler and pirelli. I would hazard a guess that the PR4's seen in cross section have a different (pointy) profile to the other brands and that gives rise to the effect you describe. As a side issue, I asked my tyre dealer, who trackdays a s1000rr how the michelins felt cornering and he said that you'll have no troubles with getting a knee down, more trouble getting it off the floor! Slightly tongue in cheek but you get my point.

  6. The profile it indeed tall, hence they turn quiker and want to drop in a corner.

Does that look like a screwed front tyre ? It has 5300 miles on it.

  8. Until I switched to PR3/4 on the Multi, I'd been on various flavours of Diablo for 15 years - whilst I still love the progressive and linear turn-in of the Pirellis, I find that they're slow to warm up in cold conditions, ultimate wet confidence is lower than the Michelins and Highland roads wear then out in 1100 miles.

  9. it would pass a test. but for a pleasurable ride. its screwed. i know the feeling your talking about. normally noticeable at the beginning of the season if i dont replace the front at the end of the previous. you probably just got used to it over the season

  10. Loads left in that yet.

  11. It is something I became aware of at the end of the last season.

What aspect of that tyre makes you say it is screwed ?

  12. That's what I thought, but it is cupped / feathered / scalloped or whatever you want to call it with wear on the leading edge of the blocks.

  13. take a measurements across the width of the tyre and your riding slower at this time of year which magnifies the effect.
my old fugly does after the tyres about two thirds worn. really drags the bars round on what should be tight fastish bends.

  14. that was on power pure tyres after about 2-3000mls.
    horrible feeling.

  15. My front is worse than that, cupped and feathered edges of the tread blocks on the sides. I am determined to get some more use out of the rear tyre though then put a pair of Metzelers on... I have heard that dyno tuning can be rough on the rear tyre so I will wait until CJS have had their way with it, if they answer the Email.

  16. I think I will get the early season over then put on a pair of Pirelli Angel GTs for the summer.

  17. One last question. In what way does the load rating physically affect the construction of the tyre. Angel GTs are available in 58 and 75 load ratings, 58 is more than sufficient loading wise but what are the trade offs ?

  18. I just received yesterday my SteelMate TPMS . Unfortunately, the front valve needs to be rotated a bit (which from what I understand means that the tyre has to come off in order for the valve to be unscrewed) 'cause it bumps agains the caliper. So it will take some time before I install it. However, I'm very curious as to the pressures under stress, touring, or hot weather.

  19. at a guess ones heavier for some reason or another which will effect flickabilty but would you notice?

  20. Mine went the same, just where the dot like thing is ttowards the edge of the tread
