Need help 916/996

  1. Assuming that you can clear that frame number and you've got all previous MOTs to prove the milage (btw what's the milage and year of production of the bike and the engine?) and you've got some documented service history (when was the engine last opened? When was the last time you checked the rockers?) then I guess it may be worth about £2000. Not including the private plate which is probably better to sell separately. Without of all the above... brake it for parts.

  2. I quite like it, saw it on ebay a while back and was half tempted, I'd change the fairing to match the seat unit and build a less crap subframe though. As others have said it's built to a very personal taste, so someone would have to really want it to pay more than a £1800, if the frame number is visable, so worth more in parts.

In my experience it's very easy to obscure the vin number when powdercoating ducati frames, a bit of emery cloth will soon reveal the history of the frame.

  3. Sack off the mot and sell it as a track bike.

  4. Can't for the life of me , get my head round why someone would want to disguise the 'Best Looking Bike ' (916) of all time as a Jap bike !!!!!!!!!!

Piece Of Shit Mate , sell the bit's off & cut your losses .........................

Start all over again , with a proper Ducati :upyeah:

  5. looks like two different shocks fitted.

Is that the fuel reg assy hanging down?

Looks like a pig in a poke.

A bit of Nitromors on the powder coating will take it off.

  6. Thanks to everyone for there advise since putting this up Iv been looking at a 848 that I'm falling in love with. Might just use this as a track bike :)

  7. looks perfect for the job

  8. Though I've not personally seen it, it has been widely reported in the motorcycling press, that the police occasionally carry out operations at track days to eliminate stolen bikes / parts being used there and thus fuelling the stolen bike market.

Obviously I'm not saying the bike or parts are stolen, but it might still be a good idea to either clear the vin area of paint or make sure you have proof of its origin with you at track days, to avoid them confiscating it till you can prove its identity.

  9. Good news after sitting scratching paint all day I have my frame numbers back :)

  10. :upyeah:

  11. what did you use buddy?

  12. At a local MOT station??
(Don't get your hopes up - a roadside check could get you in trouble with the plod too. Paperwork won't stop it getting seized too)
Can you not chemically strip back the powder coating just on the headstock?

  13. This ^^^, standard 996 fodder most likely ....

Its sad as bikes like this are not worth what the owner expects.
Breaking will/should fetch the highest value. To someone in the know, this could scream of race/dodgy/crashed/unknown history and it might not be easy to shift complete. As a whole less than 3k??? (I would fit a race fairing and use for trackdays tbh)
