Had trouble sourcing a set of tyres for my Diavel. Ducati Sunderland wanted silly money and couldn't be pinned down on a booking a time, when they answered the phone. Local indie workshops said they couldn't get hold of the tyres for weeks / said Rosso Corsa 3s were no longer available / wanted £60 a wheel to fit them / didn't really want to do them at all or just simply wouldn't answer the phone. Went to National Bike Tyres this morning in Newton Aycliffe. One-man band run by Matt. Totally sound bloke, only supplies and fits bike tyres. Rang him Friday, he said he could get my tyres pretty much by the next day and yes I can have the 3s if I want them, no problem. Rode in this morning at 8 am. Tyres were waiting for me and I was on my way again at 9:00 ride in/ride out at £114 cheaper than the Ducati dealer quoted. He even checked my brake pad wear while the wheels were off. Forty minute ride for me from Consett but well worth it for swift and professional service, zero hassle and a very good price. Can't see why I'd need to go anywhere else for tyres now. Recommended. Five stars from me. National Bike Tyres National Bike Tyres www.nationalbiketyres.co.uk
Your local dealer price is a ‘I can’t be arsed and don’t want your business” price. I can buy Pirelli tyres retail locally, cheaper than Ducati UK charge their dealers to supply the tyres. Tyre changing kit is workshop dead space and you are paying a technician salary to change a tyre. Just not worth the business to some. In north Hampshire, experienced and competent motorcycle tyre fitters are like gold dust and many of the nation brand tyre companies no longer offer a ride in, ride out service. A local independent motorcycle workshop installed a modern, hands off tyre changer and charge a flat rate £20 for a loose wheel. Ideal small business opportunity for someone. Andy
