  1. At 12k miles you need the shims/valves checked. They check the rockers at the same time. If I remember right you also need fuel and air filters too. I'm afraid it's going to be pricey. I'm having all that + belts done in Feb/March next year and am budgeting £500 and hoping rockers will be OK.

  2. Ps, if you can do any yourself you will save a lot. Apparently the air filters are 1hour Labour as the front fairing needs to come off.

  3. Cheers guys.

I'm a BMW master technician so could DIY, but like to preserve service history.

    Cheers for all the help.

  4. Been a while since I had my 2002 748 but there was a fast idle button on the throttle, it's tiny and round the back of the casing.

I had 45mm termi on mine and it was okay but had little to compare it with, the only time it felt flat in the mid range (and don't laugh here!) was when the back brake was binding when warm and resulted in it overheating and seizing. It's really common for them to be over adjusted and see burnt discs.

I also read that 50mm pipes are too big for the 748 and that sometimes ITG air filters allow too much air which makes the mid suffer. U will know if they are 50mm as the pipes under the footrest don't have the 'swells' in them, my 45mm ones had two slightly larger sections in them.

  5. Take it to Ducati pro team in strood my 916 has never run better
These guys really know what they are doing my bike was running shit
They found the problem very fast with a faulty chip .

  6. Out on the bike today and remembered your question 1, it's difficult to say we're hearing the same thing just going on a description but... on a neutral throttle at 4k the top end does indeed sound like you describe. I wouldn't quite say ticking but a sewing machine sound is very accurate. I can hear it at any revs on a neutral throttle but more so at 4k. Sounds like the top end just doing its thing to me.
2 When I put just the Termi slip on cans on my 748 (standard chip) it destroyed throttle response and mid range. Had a matched jhp chip and set up done (at independent wasn't too costly at all iirc) and it's been spot on so certainly worth checking the chip.
3 As already covered. Button on underside of twist grip housing.
4 I do my own so can't say I'm afraid. It depends what you want done but do make sure you are comparing like for like when asking around though.

  7. Hi Ian,

Yeah I think 4200 it's pretty obvious. I guess it depends on helmet type too, my helmet has quite a hollow area where my ears are so I hear everything.

Only 2 weeks till Moto V get it for a service, £800 worth so I'll get some good peace of mind afterwards.

  8. That sounds like a real going over but once its done you'll know exactly where its at. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you there are no issues.:upyeah:

  9. Cheers Ian.

    Hopefully the rockers are ok.

  10. Hi
How did you get on after a good service and how was Moto v.

  11. Hi mate. Yeah glen is awesome, knows his stuff and fixed some extra problems without charge.

Was there yesterday having my new chain and sprockets and head race bearings done.

Do you use Moto V also?

  12. Not used him yet but i want to take a ride there and have a chat about my belts etc,(which are not due until next March)
Didn't know you are just up the road from me.

I've just picked up a 748 and could do with listening to another 748 clutch, mine is very noisy but goes when pulled in ;)

  13. No probs mate. I live in Billericay but work in Laindon. Ride to work most days If its dry.

    Give me a shout. :)
