  1. It's off to the garage on a truck for service and hicap leads and oberon clutch slave cyclinder to be fitted oh and get it started. Fingers crossed

  2. Hope it gets sorted for you mate

  3. I had starting problems with my 05 999. I spoke to Glen, the chief tec at Parkinsons who said that the crank position sensor air gap was too big on bikes around that era. On his advice I removed the shim from underneath the sensor and the problem was solved.

  4. thanks mate. im quite sure its nothing more than a combination of the fuel being off, new spark plus (service) and possibly battery not getting a decent enough charge. its also getting some hicap leads fitted at the same time so touch wood. breakdown guy comes and as soon as looks at it goes oh its definatly the ecu will cost you £600 plus will that and then starts on that these 998 are always breaking on the ecus. to which i replied your not touching it or even attempting to get it going please just take it to the garage

  5. What a nob that breakdown guy was you'd need diagnostics to tell if the ecu was fooked , not just guess on the scene.

  6. I was having all kinds of starting issues which were fixed by fitting a new lead from the -ve terminal on the battery to a bolt chosen at random on the engine casing. It was as simple as taking a length of wire and getting a couple of round connectors soldered on the end.

If you don't have the skill to do this, I'll make you one and post it to you. See if that helps. It's literally a 5p fix.

  7. it was a worry when that was the first statement he came out with on the garage door being opened. thanks tom but ive ordered some motolectric hicap leads that are going to be fitted as part of the service.

  8. well its the battery thats at fault. its had a service bike started without issue but was a bit lazy after garage charged the battery but then next day it wouldnt start without a charge. so that battery will be going back once i get up to collect the bike at the weekend.

  9. just an update for all that helped. it was the battery that was def at fault and was sent back for a refund and garage fitted new yuasa which is working fine.

the hicap leads also seem to make a massive difference and it turns over far better than ever and starts within a second even from cold.

also had a oberon clutch slave fitted which as made the clutch far lighter.
