Hi, I’m fancying a new Monster but am also considering secondhand, probably a couple of years old. I’ve been looking today and haven’t had a test ride but sat on one. Is the seat as hard as it seems? It felt like a bench (and I arrived on a Panigale for comparison!!!)? A google search seems to say it’s five years between belts / desmo service, am I reading this correctly please? Also, anything else anybody thinks it’d be handy for me to know please? The bike’ intended use is commuter bike (12 miles each way on fun roads) with the occasional joyride too. Thanks all!
Running in service at 600 miles, an annual inspection service every 12 months, oil service at 9000 miles or 24 months, valves at 28,000 miles. If you don’t do the miles, you’ll have to do an annual inspection service on time AND an oil service every 9000 miles or 24 months. Belts I’m struggling to find but 5 years has been mentioned but no mileage restriction which is odd but I’d guess every 18,000 miles or 5 years, whichever comes first. We have a 937 Monster in the family and it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The Showa suspension on the 890 should be a whole lot better than the 937 which is shockingly average. Andy
The high or low seat accessory is supposed to be a comfort/touring seat. Have no problem with my high seat for 2 hours plus riding. You can pick one up from eBay quite cheap. Have to say my SP is up there as my favourite Ducati, can’t put my finger on it, just such a joy to ride and the engine still feels like a Ducati. It’s a keeper …
The new, new monster with the 890 motor doesn’t use belts. It’s on chains. Valves at 28000 miles. The previous 937 model is on belts, every 5 years or 18000 miles. I’ve had both and they’re equally good fun. My 937 is currently sat in my mates showroom for sale
