'new' Top Gear - The Verdict

  1. Yup.

  2. My daughter watched Top Gear yet she only has a passing interest in cars, it was all about Clarkson, Hammond and May, for her, and I suspect many others, they were Top Gear.

  3. One track specialist.

    Like Sykes ;)

  4. For. German I think he meant to say. It's all about context

  5. Guy Martin is documentary gold but I can't see him as a professional presenter working to a tight script nor as a studio front man. He might have made a good roving field presenter for stunts and escapades but as they decided not to change the format there was not place for that.

  6. Guy Martin? He'd turn 90% off within 20 minutes on TG. Character and charisma wouldn't carry him on that program. Same as the one he did with Coultard where C showed him up a few times

  7. Watching the repeat as I type. Evans keeps shouting, his voice has no power or presence. So far nothing new undertaken, all done before, I guess the script writers stayed? Le blanc far better than Evans. They're just entering Blackpool now, and it is a bit boring. My daughter has just painted her hallway, might go and watch the paint dry! Perhaps it will improve but so far it isn't drawing me in.

  8. A lot of the scripting was done by Jeremy Clarkson and script editor Richard Porter (who left Top Gear with Clarkson, Hammond and May).

This is an interesting article by Richard Porter about how Top Gear used to be made How We Made Top Gear

  9. Well in that case they know a winning formula when they see it, unfortunately following a recipe is no guarantee of success. I might watch another in a few weeks and see if it has improved.

  11. I thought that, but I couldn't plaice my finger on why...

  12. Fishy Fingers? :Finger:

  13. Watched the re-run last night as I had already seen the episode on finding bigfoot.
I said to the misses we had better watch it otherwise we can't really slate it. Seconds in we just looked at each other with blank expressions as Evans was jumping around and shouting. It started badly, went down hill towards the middle and the less said about the end the better.

  15. But it's needed a change of some description for years.
    Might become worth watching again.
I didn't think it was any worse than before

  16. Oh I see! That Goering was kinda cute as well - for a German

  17. You should go to spec savers - Sabine is a run of the mill Germanic cart horse! Look at VBH below after you've borrowed some specs? image.png

  18. When was that picture of VBH taken ? About 1987 ?
Don't get me wrong - I like her - but at least use an up-to-date picture...

  19. The Ariel Nomad review by Matt LeBlanc was a pleasant surprise and if they could just find a replacement for Evans then I could watch another edition. The two additional off-road sections for 'Star in a RPC' were a big mistake imo.
