  1. Seems odd that they aren't applying this additional security to the premium channels, movies etc?
    Or are they going to?

  2. Just saying ;)

  3. Bit of history....

They did - not been able to card share a hd channel for ages now. For the record the security is called "icam security" (mainly called that as its targeted a software cam's - conditional access modules). Some clever bods quite a few years ago figured out how to essentially emulate a hardware cam (remember the old freeview cartridges years ago that you slid into the back of a tv and then put the card in that...thats a cam).

As a rule of thumb if anyone manages to get a foothold on an attack vector on card security arrests are made and very quickly. The reason why card sharing and the like has been around so long is that there is no attempt to break the encryption the share takes place after the decryption has been done ( so, no one has effectively broken the law ) - however, stupid ebay sellers offering "kodi gifts" are up for their collar to be felt as they are sharing their one legit card out and effectively charging for it thus skating on the other side of the law.

News datacom are the encryption arm of sky (without going looking at company accounts i think they dwarf sky as a company). They are effectively then men in black (from a tv broadcasting view)...get a visit from them and be worried...after all if the encryption is broken then revenue falls extremely fast, so understandably they run a very tight ship. The last card they produced cost hundreds of millions (not alot now but over 15 years ago it was and its still not been cracked).

Ive had a motorised system for years and messing around with sat boxes is a fantastic waste of time..years ago you could motor round to another sat and pick up and unencrypted feed of something and watch for free including the presenter having a cup of tea and a fag in the commercial break. There was not long a go some lads on one of the forums im on who made a shit load of money betting on football matches. They were effectively watching the unencypted feed of a football match which was about 10 seconds ahead of the encrypted feed and placing bets at the last second on goals scored. I think not long after that even feeds are now encrypted at source. Feed hunting i think the nerds call it. Its quite good if say for example you can catch a rocket launch somewhere in the world - thats pretty cool to watch it live live...as it were...

Anyway...rambling now...i may have some of the technical stuff slightly wrong as, ive been messing around with it for years and still find i know fuck all...!
