  1. Plus expenses.

  2. A musician friend and and a marine mechanic mate, both sole traders, have told me they have shown a loss for years. And the musician - who is a massive leftie - for the last six!

Neither has been investigated. It gets very interesting if we get drunk together I can tell you! They're great fun and have been mates for decades - and the mechanic is a biker – or I'd ditch them.

I have never really understood how anyone could be believed to have made no profit - unless they can show they have lived off savings. It would be like me not getting any pension or salary payments.

  3. i guess it depends whether your a sole trader or ltd? i think something to do with paying your self a wage plus a dividend on your profit. i think.

  4. whats the average expenses per year for what 650 MP's........

  8. So all the arguments on here about surviving on 67 grand miss all the rest...wouldnt it be nice to also be paid for the cost of running an office, having somewhere to live in a city and out in the country, and paid for travelling to and from work.............BASTIDS

    Pay and expenses for MPs

The basic annual salary for an MP from 1 April 2014 is £67,060. MPs also receive expenses to cover the costs of running an office, employing staff, having somewhere to live in London and in their constituency, and travelling between Parliament and their constituency.

  9. So which of these expenses do you think they should pay out of their salary?:

    Costs of running their office
    Employing staff
Living in London (whilst also being present in their constituency).
Travel from London to their constituency

If I had to work for a business that required me to spend time on secondment elsewhere and didn't want to pay for the travel and accommodation, I'd resign immediately. And if I was meant to be running an office for them with assistants to deal with all the paperwork, if they expected me to pay for it myself, ditto.

Here's a good idea. Lets just dispense with MPs, and Parliament. Let's have everything decided by diktat, like in a good old dictatorship. That should reduce cost and speed things up.
Or, if we are going to have MPs, let's only have very rich ones who can afford to run their offices, live in two places at once and travel at their own expense. Or let's have part-time ones with very well paid consultancy and lobbying jobs which take up little time, so that they can afford to do their MP's job.

I don't really know where you are going with all this.

  10. Does your employer make you pay for your workplace? If you need some admin work doing do you have to pay someone to do it from your own pocket? If you had to travel to the other end of the country on business would you have to pay for your own travel and accomodation?

  11. Are you kidding me? These are public sector workers the same as all the other public sector workers......well in theory. If i need an envelope i am provided with an envelope........not, "heres ten grand for the year in case you need an envelope".....

Ask the nurses that work in London how much travel they have to do to get to work and what extra compensation they get for it.....oh to add the vast wage they get too!

Ask the Police that could get ordered to work from any where in their area and have to make their own way there in their own time and vehicle because they are ordered to ......

You need to get in the real world .....ask how many self employed people have to pay for their own office or premises let alone pay for their own staff......

As public sector workers why have we not seen a reduction in their numbers?

Why do they have spare time for their second job and third... give them a bigger work load then so we get 100% of them 100% of the time......

  13. So ask yourselves "compared to the average UK worker are MPs featherbedded" ?

Replying that MPs are not average UK workers is deliberately missing the point !

  14. of course if it was an MP ranting they would of awarded themselves 9.5/10.....oh hang on lets set up a committee of our mates giving them an all expenses paid job of course, and let them award us it ( we can then say its not down to us).....
