It blew smoke at a petrol station after a 45 min ride and on arrival home after nearly 2 hours riding. She was plenty warm. Shouldn't be rich as has a custom map so should be perfect.
Is this an accurate guide to test compression? https://www.howtomotorcyclerepair.com/how-to-motorcycle-compression-test/
Wouldn’t panic as long as it’s only puffs of black does sound like its a little rich - may be due to sensible riding - need to stop doing that !
Other than the amount of oil, that looks to be running rich to me which would account for a bit of black smoke. Steve
That's quite a bit of oil on the outside of the plug mate, is your rocker cover loose, leaking, or cracked?
I know on 1098's the seal on the rocker cover that keeps oil out the plug hole fails regular filling the plug hole with oil. When I put mine back after checking valve clearances I put some of that grey stuff on the seal. Stopped mine leaking
So, as I'm going to get the valves done anyway, this could be good as maybe only the gasket gone explaining losing oil and smoking exhaust? I have a feeling heads have never been off. No sign of oil on outside.
Tend to agree looks like it’s running rich and even if leaking into plug hole that wouldnt get to the cylinder so that won’t cause the smoke - think the black smoke is over fueling Does it smell like it’s over fueling when running ?
Pulled the H. Looks healthier. Did a compression test on cold engine. V-100 H-115 Anyone know what this indicates?
Vertical is a bit low IMO which taken with the condition of the plug COULD indicate rings or valve seats. If the stem seals have gone that could result on crud accumulating on the valve affecting the seating. Andy
Ok, to be honest, as I know the valves should be done anyway, this probably won't be to horrendous...... I'm remarkably calm for some reason, normally I'm melting down by this point.
