When the new Marelli 59M came out in 2001, what kit were dealer service centres using as test equipment? I presume they had some sort of diagnostic equipment they could purchase from Ducati that could connect to the ECU to see error codes, clear codes, determine a fault in the ECU, reset TPS, etc. right? I'm trying to determine exactly what this setup was so I can track one down to add to my collection. If anyone has a picture, make, model, that would be very helpful! EDIT: I *think* I have found some info and pictures here (Mathesis), can anyone confirm? https://www.speedzilla.com/threads/...agnostic-testing-kit-with-ancilliaries.67014/ Any info on these Mathesis units like what version and kit I need for a 59M would be helpful. It looks like I need a v.07 and the full kit is 4 cases? Who can educate me on all of this? I'm also trying to track down the microfiche pages for the 996R. I know there would have been a parts fiche, but wasn't there also one for the electrical? I think starting in 2002 for the MY 2003 these became computerised as I've seen these fiches for other MY 2001 models and some MY 2002 models. Thanks!
Yep, Mathesis it is. I’ll double check which version goes with 59M in my documents and let you know. A pretty fascinating diagnosis tool, really. Lots of people will tell you it’s a very expensive dated useless piece of crap. But when used correctly, it really works well. But it’s fragile and can be easily damaged when not used correctly. I have the early single case 0.4 (Italian) version for my 916. Got a really nice deal in Italy (600€…). I use it for my TPS reset. Very easy! Yes, there are way simpler and performant softwares available now, but from a collector stand point, finding one of these kits in decent shape with nothing missing is very rewarding too, albeit uber expensive. @rocotrix has been tracking full Mathesis kits all over the world for a while now and he may be able to point you in the right direction. I’ll ping him and send him your way. Below are a few pics of his latest finds.
Wow, jackpot! Thank you. After a couple hours of searching it became apparent there are lots of pieces to these, versions, updates, etc. to learn before I jump in and burn money. I'd like to be targeted and only get what specifically is 59M and Testa engine relevant. Otherwise, I think it could snowball into more than I'm able to/want to spend.
Exactly. Lots of different versions and kits, as Ducati upgraded ecu’s from P8 to 5.9M, most of which have been mixed together in Ducati service workshop drawers as the years and updates went by… So documentation before purchase is paramount here, given your aim. I have never heard or read about NOS kits left somewhere. That would be a fantastic find, though… I just texted Sébastien (Rocotrix), he should chime in on this.
Yeah, given the investment, having run a shop myself, I'm sure all got well used. Unless a dealer went out of business soon after buying a kit and it got stashed somewhere. I'm more concerned with having the correct and working bits. No broken wires or electrical tape lol. Shelf wear and worn/cracked cases seem to be the norm, and I'm ok with that. Even from a collecting standpoint, complete and functional would be my goal. So I could actually use it if needed. Now if a complete NOS kit that includes the compatibility I want presents itself in the future, I wouldn't kick it out of bed I could always sell my used one to recoup some cost.
So, having looked at my 05/2002 diagnosis tester user manual, here’s what Mathesis info I found about the 5.9M: - Software version = 0.6 or 0.7 - 996R = « System » 5 In a later workshop document I have (Mathesis database release 10), 996R is mentionned with « system 9 ». A little confusing, but nothing out of the ordinary for Ducati…
hello 92GTA indeed as Guillaume says, I set out to look for a system of mathesis as complete as possible. I looked all over the world and it turns out that there are several to sell, but the owners are a little greedy sometimes... for my part I made one in 4 months, from 5 sales on the net, but most of the time it is complicated and you have to think more in year I will come back tonight to give you more info, and links, with the coordinates of the current sellers, adding photos
A lad on here has two complete kits, Alex. He was on about selling at least 1 of them a while ago. I’ll ask him if he’s still got them.
let’s take back our thread the search for a mathesis is most of the long time to search for a mathesis your best friend is google and ebay, you will find everything and nothing generally you count 3 suitcases
on google you find old sales, either too expensive or incomplete but we must not lose hope, there is always another way As far as I’m concerned, the pressure suitcase comes from an ebay USA sale in the state of New York, the main suitcase from an ebay sale in Italy, and the tension suitcase ( which I don’t have but I have most of the components of Stein dinse online retailer in Germany) but social networks are even simpler and then you come across another world, you can find what you want and there I found what I was looking for - look on facebook messenger an American ( Raymond Burris) currently has 2 sets of mathesis: One complete in Italian with belt tester and pressure kit and another one with only the belt tester. These are getting extremely hard to find. And when they are available are costly" hard to get in touch with him he doesn’t connect so often an Englishman ( john Tomlinson), great collector of the 998 model, to a lot of mathesis cable but not the appropriate suitcases (photo 3) an Australian ( Ryan'o P.Coltrane) to what it takes fully and practically new ( photo 4 and 5) a last solution is proposed, the closure of a Ducati concession, and wholesale parts dealers and there you find Desmomaket in Italy, who has one to sell, but the material has lived, they want a little expensive for my taste between 1200 € and 1500 € ( photo 6 , 7 , 8) they must still have it right now otherwise there is one last link, that of a member of the Ducati UK forum, [email protected] from Shine99R, but I did not get an answer from him having asked the question to a long-time ducati mechanic that we have in France, he answered me that a complete set of mathesis with the 3 suitcases is usually sold in France 1200 €, and for a set almost new it can take significant increases the best compromise at the moment would be the Ryan'o P.Coltrane kit on facebook
Images 6, 7, & 8 appear to show an older unit and it only has updates v4, v5, & v,6. v6 would work for me, but I'd rather have a v7 for the additional features. I see a 2021 posting on their FB page but nothing listed on their website. Images 4 & 5 also appear to show the older unit. I see it has a v11 and 3 others that I can't read, so perhaps had a v7. Image 3 appears to show both the older unit and a newer unit (system 5 that I want) below that one, and no software disks that I can see. Really sucks he is missing the cases. Even the 1 case he has is incorrect for this unit. Images 1 & 2 show the newer unit I want, and hopefully, he may have a v7 update for it. There are several Raymond Burris on FB. Can you help me with which one? I also found a person on FB named Greg Neveux who has a kit and posted images of it. He said he paid $4500 in 2001 with 2 cards 0.6 upgrade. That's crazy, it has a cracked case and is only the Mathesis unit and 1 case. EDIT: What I called the newer unit is technically a "Terminale CDS-05" made by Tecnomotor Italiana. So I'll take that to mean "system 5" referenced in the May 2002 manual. Again, thank you very much for the information. This will certainly get me started. I have all other images I could find of these on the internet and thanks to chrisw, I have a complete diagram and parts list of exactly what I'm looking for.
This 3-piece kit is EXACTLY what I want down to the system version, disk update, correct P/Ns and even being in English. This appears to be the original ad: https://www.speedzilla.com/threads/...agnostic-testing-kit-with-ancilliaries.67014/ If only I could figure out who owns it now lol. UPDATE: I think I tracked it down to a Ukrainian motorcycle shop and I sent them an email.
What do you make of this image, which appears to show 3 cases PLUS the Mathesis unit case? That's 4 total, what's the middle case in the image of the 3?
IMPORTANT QUESTION: How specific exactly are the memory cards? For example, that manual says 0.7 is for MY02 injection-ignition systems. Does that mean I must have the 0.6 for my 2001 996R? For that matter, if I find a 0.8 card, is it backwards compatible? It seems to me they are adding features with each revision and not locking a certain version to specific model years. But I want to ask just in case, because you know, Ducati lol. I want to be 100% sure on this. I ask because I think I've found a kit with a 0.8 English card. Thanks!
I understand that each new version (0.4, 0.5, 0.6) etc, consists in a new software update with added functionalities and models. They call it a database release number XX. So a newer version should work for a model that was already taken into account in a previous software version. Now if you strictly want what was the latest release in 2001 when the 996R was available, then I’d say it’s 0.6.
I appreciate the confirmation. I've realized that these cards are more common than the kits so I'll be buying the best system 5 kit I can, and whatever card I need I'll worry about after the fact. Like if I get this kit with the 0.8 card, I'll just go find a 0.7 and 0.6 card afterwards.
for the mathesis boxes, for the 2 versions, they are both CDS-05 for Desmomarket mathesis, the kit would be sold with 5 other memory cards in addition to those in the photo, making 8 cards in total (4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11) - but I recognize that the box is a first generation contact Paolo on Whatsapp +339 333 363 0495 As for John Tomlinson the lack of suitcases is reguretable but it has the cables in duplicate of which one almost impossible to find, for the cards of Ryan'o, it is a card 10 and 11 for Raymond Burriss, he has a 748 on his profile picture https://www.facebook.com/raymond.burriss for the photo of your set of 4 suitcases, the case is a CDS-05 why so these 3 suitcases in addition to the main one, the first is that of the belt tension kit, and the other 2 are in reality only one. it’s just a more spread out, less piled up layout, with some duplicate elements
