Chuck a post up on ducati sporting club, its mainly DD racers these days and often have bits laying around
Hi all I found and won some carbs off eBay. Chap selling them assured me they were working fine and that all screws are working/turning fine. Hopefully with me by end of the week - so the fun and games can commence once again As ever - many thanks for advice and help. Has been hugely appreciated.
Well, all you have to do now, is start again.............. Make sure you check the guts over to make sure that they are the same as yours....that way you won't have to transfer much over...... While you are at it.........check the emulsion tubes for wear and select the best pair....... ....you can check them when the carbs are apart by looking straight down the hole where the needle fits..........if the hole is oval, they are worn.... Number 8 in the top diagram. Also check Number 11 jet is the same size..............might be tight to remove.....You could chance it and not check because they are probably the same........and you could get at it without removing the carbs.
Hi all Replacement carbs fitted with DJ 2 kit - and set up as per DJ instructions. Took a while to fire. Revs are erratic and don't seem to back off when throttle closed (or they take a few seconds to do so). Also, engine cuts out occasionally when idling, and there is a noticeable sound of the carb piston sliding shut). Have checked the balance between the carbs and seems to be ok. Will take her out for a run tomorrow - perhaps that'll clear it all out.
Tickover / idle speed too high usually causes slow die off..........back it off a bit...........1100rpm max I should think......(Bugger to get at innit? Burned your arm yet?). Cut out when idling?..........Maybe a loose coil connection or something similar..........or a bit of dirt or lint in a pilot jet. Are the flimsy diaphragms in good nick.....no holes or splits or perished? Could be pilot jet adjustment.....not always the same setting on each carb....... Sounds as though you are getting there though.........make sure the airbox trumpets are not fitted.....and, you may even have to cut the airbox about if the plugs show it is running too rich.
Hi - the diaphragms i took from my old carbs as they looked in better nick; and they're fine. I've got an open air box with a K&N filter, which i have wired on (criss crossed across the top). Will take it for a blast tomorrow, to see if that helps
Have tried to start her this morning - no luck, although yesterday's efforts probably drained it. Am charging as we speak. There was however, noticeable smell of petrol - a lot more than there was before.
Most SS carbed models tend to stink of petrol, so maybe Monsters do as well....... When you start the bike, don't touch the throttle until it has fired up, just push the button....half choke max in this weather, I reckon.
If I start with any choke at all - it revs like a b******d!! Have taken it out for a short blast - she soon ran out of steam As the revs didn't back down when throttle shut off, I decided to head home as was going in to corners too hot. Got home, think I've got a better idle speed (although still shuts off occasionally). Revisited balancing the carbs - readings were all over the place - one minute they were almost identical, the next way different. And yes - arm burnt lots! Particularly with balancing!!
