959 Panigale Track Diet

  1. Going to be sticking mine on the scales around beginning of March so will be interesting to see what she's sitting at... almost all bolts are Ti now. Only the tank to contend with now and possibly the ABS delete with the lines. How does the delete unit deal with dash lights and ABS settings on the screen? I'm presuming just plug in and away you go?... It's going to be far easier to remove than my old Fireblade ABS system that's for sure! all 10kgs worth....

  2. You get no warning lights. I assume it will still show an ABS setting that will be irrelevant, so just set to off if it doesn’t say that already. I haven’t mounted the dash and turned it on since fitting, but that is what the paperwork suggests. It is quite straight forward to remove.... just a pain you have to take the ECU panel off to get at where all the solid lines were mounted. You don’t mount the unit where the ABS unit was due to what it plugs into (speed sensor and GPS module connections).

  4. Well worth leaving that in place. Most of the Trioptions guys do now with an over ride switch.

  5. Secondary Air System (or Air Injection System) swapped out tonight for a couple of blanking plates, a bung and plug-in. Old system 297g, new bits 61g, so a 236g saving and less interference from the emissions system.

    (Oh, and this is by far the nastiest little jobs of all so far.... whatever bright spark decided how to mount the valve up under the air box needs some sort of award!!)

  6. Looks like the picture part was simple! Is the valve and connector under the airbox fixed to anything else?
     
  7. There is an air feed to each cylinder. The second is harder to get at unless you have taken the charcoal canister and ABS unit off... however the real problem is the valve/motor under the air box, because one of the bolts is behind the valve/motor and you just can’t get at it...

    It is mounted up under there.....

  8. Interesting thread, I too want to get my V4S a bit lighter. Particularly liked the brake hose/ABS delete.

    A relevant note though (for me anyway). Over a 4 week Christmas period I stopped training and ate and drank like a fekkin pig. I consequently banged on 5kg!! I'm in the process of lopping it off again. Didn't fancy lubing up before pulling the leathers on :laughing:

  9. I had A Carpal Tunnel Release op on 19th November and thought I would put on a bit of weight sat around for 6 weeks, but I have somehow lost 3kg!.... no, I won’t swap with the 5 you put on! :joy:

  11. I will start off with.... I don’t Run! As a race we invented bicycles and motorbikes and cars for a reason! For the first 2 weeks you really can’t do anything at all. After those first two weeks you could (if you were that way inclined) start jogging, however it isn’t my thing. Hopefully be back in the gym this week, however I’m still not supposed to strain the hand too much.

  12. That looks like a complete ball ache of a job! I must admit having stripped mine down they certainly seemed to have cramped everything in alright. I've pretty much rerouted most of the wiring. From standard it's either way too long or so tight you can play a tune on it! .... must be a wiring harness that fits several different models... I remember my old 999R being the same....

  13. It has been a slow week waiting for replacement banjo bolts (wrong thread for caliper) and for my tank and suspension to come back. However I have managed to weigh a couple of things that are easy weight removal, again at no cost....

    The plastic header covers are 190g:

    Another 0.5kg saving.
     
  14. Swapping out the OEM seat/light/tray/indicators/numberplate for a race rear fairing saves a surprising 2.2kg...

  15. Weighing more bodywork tonight.
    OEM nose including light and air tube covers is 3.05kg and the race nose/screen is 0.88kg, so a 2.18kg saving:

  17. Side panels (959) OEM with the sound deafening weigh 2.78kg. The race replacements (with fixings that I didn’t weigh on OEM) are 1.54kg, so another 1.24kg saving...

  18. Absolutely. 15kg so far with not a lot of spend (my fairings were second hand with a free front subframe (£450), so was the 1299 exhaust (£250) and I got discounts on quite a few of the other bits).

  19. Trioptions rules are a weight of 176kg at any time including tank and contents. Let’s work on a sensible minimum tank of 2 liters and you can pull another 15kg off of the wet weight (which I have read is a full tank), which would put me 6kg under weight, which I find hard to believe. Does anyone know if wet weight is a full tank?

  20. I thought that was the case: wet equals all fluids as they should be.

    I'd imagine the tri options will be with the min 2l of fuel at 176
