  1. Quote: glidofgood: What is a champagne socialist? Is it someone who has essentially left wing views, but finds that their own personal position is pretty comfy? Does that mean that they should give everything away and live in poverty to be credible? Is this worse than just saying "Ah fuck 'em. I'm alright jack. Bollocks to sharing my pile."?
If you mean people like Mitterand, who was supposedly a socialist but spent his life as an elitist I agree.

Not asking anyone to live in poverty Glid. Just to do their bit and not behave ostentatiously in front of their new-found proletarian mates, which a certain Brand of person seems to find very difficult. I agree Mitterand was a reptile but I also loved the fact that Tony Benn left his millions to his children, along with the family pile at Stansgate, Essex, and not a penny to a single good cause, trade union or political party. I'll do the same probably, but I won't have spent my life preaching socialist or egalitarian values, though I do make regular donations to a range of charities.

As far as the I'm All Right Jack tendency is concerned, of course, they're not better, but at least you know where you are with them as they are not raging hypocrites.

  6. I had Hondas in the Seventies and very early Eighties but haven't had a Jap bike since I bought my Laverda in 1982. You could say that I've seen the light, or that I have become a biking masochist - and both would be true.

    I am watching you :)

  11. Yes. Very similar photo - even down to the faux zebra skin! But here's a pic of our other cat Sushi, on the right, with Sunny when she was much younger. image.jpg She's ten years older than Sunny and not related. I think there's a bit of a generic black-and-white cat look! I didn't put her on before. She's a bit smaller now because she's quite old and frail but you see what I mean. I used to struggle to tell them apart when they were a similar size for a few years before Sushi started to shrink.

  12. There's a couple of black and whites round here but they don't have the same facial markings as ours.
Mine has a black tipped nose, it was so funny when I saw your pic same colour cat and the zebra print throw :)

  13. Yes. Bikers/Ducati owners/Forum members/South East Dwellers/Cat owners/near identical cats - and both on faux Zebra material. Quite a few coincidences I'd say!

  14. I've not seen you in the same room together ;)

  15. You been round my gaff sneaking pics of my pussy ? :)

  19. Back on topic with another pet hate. People who've got a first degree, or even a master's degree, from a former polytechnic that's been converted to a low-ranking university - in some made-up subject, say business studies for the sake of argument - who bang on about how intelligent they are without ever showing any evidence of it.

Any truly intelligent person would know that the ability to pass exams - especially in subjects such as business studies, which lack the sort of intellectual rigour that would enable them to be taken seriously by true academics - has nothing to do with intelligence.

And has anyone heard Stephen Hawking find it necessary to tell anyone how intelligent he is? I rest my case, m'lud.
