You are probably right for a V4 Ducati - but these tyres were fitted to the Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro (888 cc). They were ordered and fitted by a Triumph dealership. Bike looking grubby after a Euro trip !
Looks like you fitted the wrong tyre for the bike. The front and rear tyre should be ZR not R. The Trail 3 can be bought in either variation . Under normal riding conditions most riders would not notice any difference in . But if your riding at very fast flat out speeds on the road (mad) you would want to have a tyre rating that accommodates these speeds.
As I mentioned, maybe different for V4 Ducatis - but the humble 888 cc Triumph Tiger GT Pro 900 - these are the correct tyres - fitted by the Triumph dealership - while I went and had a pot of tea and some cake ! As advised by Triumph - V rating for the GT Pro like mine:
Apologies if I have confused things. I did not realise this thread was going to become so bike specific. I started the thread with a general inquiry and only mentioned "my bike ....the Triumph" in post #4. @Matudiaz - had high speed issues with these tyres and it was later established that there are "V" and "W" versions of the tyre. I confirmed this with a picture of the "V" tyre taken on my Triumph Tiger at the time. That is what has caused the confusion - assuming my picture of the tyre was on a Ducati V4 S - and therefore the wrong choice of tyre, when it was actually fitted to the Triumph Tiger 900. Anyway, it has still been useful to find out about the versions of the tyres, for different speed ratings. To avoid further confusion - I am not going to say anymore about it 'cause I sold the bike earlier this year Apologies.
It all falls into place now . The number is a weight rating and the letter is a speed rating. Thus, 75W (as should be on a MultiStrada) for the rear equates to a max weight of 385kg and a max speed of 270kmh. 69V (as on the Triumph Tiger 900) equates to 325kg and 240kmh. In practice most won’t exceed the 69V rating on a MultiStrada but ….. just in case.
