749 Problem

  1. thanks boys,,,splashed out 4£ on test light screwdriver type thingy,, ok,, got two live feeds on/into the relay so prob accept that is ok up to there,, but connection up under the tank is a pain,, 4 small connections, yes, on out ( tank ) side is two black , one red and one white,, so guess the red ( out ) will be live , two of the others will be level or whatever ( cant remember if 749 has level / warning ) tho that could well be them and a fourth a return, ( maybe two are returns ), but not getting power from any of the ins ( bike side ), ( they are different colours to the corresponding out side :Banghead: ) kind of suspect i need to join two together,,, nor cant power up the pump with putting power ( from battery live ) direct to any on the out side .:Arghh:
     
  2. bearing in mind the relays will almost definitely get an earth from the engine ecu to switch the relay
    see the two bigger connections on the uel pump relay you can brige them out using the multi meter set to 10amps. but dont forget to switch he leads back before you short circuit something
     
  3. I am getting power from one of the bigger points and also from one of the smaller ones , also had the relays checked , I thot that would be enough to rule out a prob in that area, I don't understand what you mean with the multimeter , I don't have one cos I don't know how to use one
     
  4. Is it easy go remove the pump from the tank , drain all fuel and take off the three bolts , but I think I remember reading a how to and it is not straight forward .
     
  5. Even I can do it. If I remember right put the bolts you take out through the 3 empty bolt holes and when you do them up it pushes the pump out.

  7. Actually, I think you use 3 other bolts you got kicking about but the theory is right. Probably.

  9. when you switch on the ignition one of the big pins on the relay and one of the small pins will go 12+ the other small pin will get a 12v- or zero volts or earth depending on how you want to look at it. lets just say 12v- or earth for a couple of seconds then stop. the switching voltage from the engine ecu (earth) wont return until you start cranking. if you just brige out the two bigger pins, this will eliminate the relay to ecu side. if you get priming your half way there to diagnosing. if you get power at the pump but no priming your 100% diagnosed.
     
  10. Yep. Apparently you should use a new big o-ring seal which are stupid expensive from Ducati. Got a feeling @Exige does them. I didn't both last time and not caught fire (yet). You can get others from non-Ducati sources that fit but I can't remember what, you'll need to get googling.

    Use Vaseline on it to help slide it back in (ahem). Wife will raise an eyebrow as you take Vaseline to the garage.
     
  11. If I get priming I am 100% to starting , I know this , I also checked the relay ,it is ok , also the spare , I am getting live from the relay plug , on two points , I thot that should show there is no prob with the relay , could try jumping it tomo tho , just incase , ta

  13. just bridge out the two big wires on the fuel pump relay plug and tell me whats happening.

  15. yip. but if you plug the relay back in and you get nadda then try bridging it out again and you get priming, we are almost there.
     
  16. Mate, Red Rubber grease. Vaseline is petroleum based and will disove in your petrol. As far as I know, there are no smutty connotations associated with Red Rubber grease so no raised eyebrows. Andy

  17. I have put it back in and out and in and out ( also the spare ) about ten times , and plenty shoogling about with ign on , still no priming , but will try bypass tomo , always when I turn the ign on if it primes it starts , ev time , but no prime no start ,, eve time !!
     
  18. thats about 1/4 of the diagnoses taken care of then. all good.
