Hi all, been in a discussion on a 1098 with starting problems, I've reposted here in case it's of interest to anyone who has starting issues when it's cold:
I connected a jump start lead to my 996, it became a pig to start after I had work done on the engine ( higher compression) I then had one of those jump start battery kits, swapped the croc clips for Anderson connector and used that jump start box to aid the starting first time, once warm it would usually then start ( it was a track bike). I did this after seeing someone else who'd done the same thing. Worked a treat and no reason it wouldn't work on any of the bikes as long as you can get additional cables to the battery and route them to the outside of the fairing where you fit the Anderson connector without the cables being overly long, was easy on the 996 because of where the battery is
Full discussion here: https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/another-1098-with-starter-issues.84842/ Mine was for a track bike, got fed up jump starting it from the car, this solution worked really well for me, for that first start of the day, can't say if there's a technical reason that it is an ok solution, or a reason not to do it. I'm sure the sages will be along shortly
I use the same sort of remote starter for my track 996. Usually only needs it when it is cold. Already has better starter leads and changed starter gear ratios
