There is stuff in the universe that we might never understand, indeed because our brains might not be capable of it. But that isn't an interesting place to start our enquiry. It's like giving up before you start. It's much more interesting to assume that you will one day understand and go from that hypothesis. Had we not done so, we wouldn't have made any of the technological advances of the past couple of hundred years. And there is no chance of running out of things to discover. The Universe is big and old and we are small and don't live very long.
Now you are pretending to be obtuse. You have adopted a position (as set out in your posts, which needless to say I have studied carefully), and you have refused to consider that the position you have adopted might be wrong, even though you cannot justify it. Which makes it really funny that you have yourself fallen into the very trap that you have wrongly set for me. Enough.
"it would be a huge stretch to say that there are things we (and our descendants) are forever incapable of knowing." There are things in the universe that we (and our decendants)are forever incapable of knowing. See ? That's not a huge stretch at all...
PETE MIGHT BE RIGHT AND I MIGHT BE WRONG... There you go Pete... All I ask is that you admit that you might also be wrong...
Yes yes, of course we got the joke. It was hilarious. Explaining the point of the joke now makes it even funnier, so thanks for that. No really.
If there was indeed a 'Thread of the Year' award on this forum then this one truly takes it and like all successful competitors the OP has sneaked up and won it right at the end
I have yet to state my beliefs. I asked the question out of interest and thank you for taking the time to respond. Are these values learned or already in us? Do you think School or parents etc teaches right and wrong, good and bad?
Oi! No bickering on my thread! I'll have to break it up: You can't rule out that there may be a God, although, as I said, it's a pretty meaningless concept, because "how did God get here?". The universe is a strange place. However, you equally can't rule out that the universe is ruled by an omniscient chocolate teapot. It's just that it's not very likely. In fact there are a zillion extremely unlikely things that can't be definitively ruled out. But it seems a waste of time to focus on them, and more interesting to focus on things which, whilst initially appearing unlikely, actually turn out to be true. The chance of an omnipotent being who really would have some sort of influence in human day to day affairs is so totally out there that it's not worth giving the time of day to. So that settles organised religion. The chance of an omnipotent being who takes no interest in human affairs is clearly not worth spending any time over either, since he's not listening. So for me, religion is just a red herring. There's no point even giving it any thought.
I'm not going to enter into a "debate" Pete, but I struggle sometimes to understand what point you try to make. It was just a piece of what Weegies would term "Street Theatre" First post by you referring to it points out how clever you are at being able to work out the relative time difference and pointing out that, what the lad was saying, which was clearly based on a wrong premise, had a basis in fact Second post then belittles me for spelling out the joke, which you clearly understood but obviously thought was not that funny, maybe it wasn't I "get" forums and debate but IMHO you can take it all VERY seriously maybe just a tad too seriously Anyway had enough, maybe see you in another thread Gettin ma coat
"So still trolling. Pity." Still incapable of accepting the possibility that you might be wrong. Pity...
