There are two common tyre profiles when it comes to the edge where one might chicken strip or not. with reasonable effort, there's one profile where you could use all of the tread, but if you're tempted to use all of the tread on the other one, you would be grounding exhaust on a Monster, and/or pegs and side stand on an SS which is not a good idea on the road, plus a good chance you'll be part company with the bike more regularly.
