Rear Shock Removal 749 Advice

  1. All done with no problems. I used a belt and braces approach, and chocked underneath the engine with a stack of bricks on either side of the exhaust pipe, and positioned axle stands underneath the reversed footpegs.

Both 8mm bolts withdrew very easily and looked as though they had been fitted yesterday. I was unable to undo the 14mm nut retaining the rocker linkage as my slim socket was too big to fit through the frame, but the rose joints were in excellent condition and the rocker seemed to move smoothly on it's axle so I was happy to leave it.

Only had time and inclination for a quick blast, but noticed a significant improvement , tricky adjusting for sag on my own, but realized when I was all kitted up that I only have about 5mm of Sag so need to do some more adjustment tomorrow.

What surprises me is how I have zero corrosion anywhere on my 10 year old 28k mile bike, no engine paint flaking, no rust, and in the 5 years of ownership by me, the only problems have been a front brake light micro switch and the valve clearances going out of tolerance at 18k. Ducati seemed to have built better bikes 10 years ago!

  2. Of course they did - they were called 749 or 999, every one knows that
