Refitting Crankcase Breather Tube To Airbox

  1. Does anyone have any top tips for getting the crankcase breather hose back into the standard airbox?

I've tried putting the end of the hose in hot water to soften it, but it still doesn't want to go back. I'm reluctant to use any metal tools because I don't want to damage the end of the hose.

  2. Get a new hose. Old ones harden.

  3. I'd happily do that, but I can't find one for sale. It appears to have been discontinued.

  4. I used a blunt screwdriver last time. It doesn’t take much to get the lip into the right location.

  5. Can you connect a small section of new flexible hose to both the original hose and the air box?

  6. Plastic hose is available in a wide range of diameters, colours, and materials. What is the internal diameter you need?

  7. A dab of silicone grease may help - if the hose is rubber.

  8. Silicone Grease or spray used sparingly is your friend in this instance.

  9. Silicon grease is a good idea, I think I've got some in the dive gear tool box. Thanks everyone.

  10. i'm no help because i can't remember the "knack" to doing it, but i know it involves swivelling as there is a similar tricky hose on a Multistrada. I didn't use silicon grease.

  11. Wintergreen oil, softens rubber.

  12. Agree no metal tools i do try lolly sticks a lot especially the larger/fatter magnum ones you can eat it first whilst studying the job at hand,
I also use them for scrapping chain crap off around front sprocket etc.

  13. Dipping the end of the pipe into boiling water before pushing it on sometimes works.
