Removing Centre Bolt Top Yoke / Fork Top Nut On The Ss

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by ck_uk, Feb 3, 2019.

  1. Hi all

Any tips for the best/correct tool to use, when removing the centre nut on the top yoke?

Also, the fork main nuts. Haynes manual advises to loosen the fork top nuts if planning to disassemble once removed from the bike. There is an inner and outer bolt by the looks of it?

I don't know what these are made of, but it looks like they could be easily damaged.

  2. For the top yoke you need to undo the pinch bolt first - the centre nut should be straight forward to undo with the correct size socket

On the forks , the lower, larger nut is the fork cap .. undo the before the pinch bolt at the top of the fork - it’s easier to do at this point, rather than clamping the fork once off the bike
The upper nut is the preload adjuster
